Overview Histotechnician – Lima Medical Office Building 750 W High The Histotechnician will perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The Histology Technician ensures tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the required standards. Responsibilities include providing the highest quality medical laboratory services, working independently, and troubleshooting any problems under the general supervision of a manager or lead technologist. Essential Functions Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining Assists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures Reports accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care Documents problems that may affect test performance and performs corrective actions when needed Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in proper readiness, cleanliness, and sharpens and hones microtome knives Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required Other duties as assigned Education & Certifications High School Degree or GED (required) Associate of Science (preferred) Histotechnician (HT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (preferred) Experience BSM: Histology experience preferred, not required RSFH: 2 years Histology experience required Skills & Abilities Encourages other lab personnel to work towards professional growth and development by sharing information Ability to work independently within a team and strong attention to detail Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner What We Offer Competitive pay, incentives, referral bonuses and 403(b) with employer contributions (when eligible) Medical, dental, vision, prescription coverage, HSA/FSA options, life insurance, mental health resources and discounts Paid time off, parental and FMLA leave, short- and long-term disability, backup care for children and elders Tuition assistance, professional development and continuing education support Benefits may vary based on the market and employment status.
