Orthopedic Technician

Job Summary The Orthopedic Technician is primarily responsible for applying and removing casts, splints, and braces. Duties/Responsibilities Apply, adjust, and remove casts Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devices Assist Orthopedic Surgeon in reduction of fractures Instruct patients in proper care of cast and splints, including walking with casts and boots Instructing patients with the use of crutches and DME Change dressing and care for wounds Remove sutures, staples, etc. Order medical supplies and manage DME inventory Assist in making followup appointments and consultation appointments with specialists for patients. Adhere to established clinic/office policy and procedure directives EMR documentation of services performed Manage patient care flow by rooming patients in a timely manner, assuring xrays are completed and informing physician when patient is ready to be seen. Perform a broad spectrum of duties including previsit preparation, assisting with the patient visit, and postvisit duties Perform other duties as required Required Skills/Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient satisfaction. Professional, dependable, and maintains positive attitude in fast-paced environment. Organized and able to multitask to facilitate efficient workflow. Knowledgeable of medical terminology and general medical practice operations. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Basic office skills such as typing, filing, and operating phones. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED required Experience in medical setting required ROT certification is a plus Casting experience is a plus Physical Requirements Standing, walking, sitting, bending Ability to safely lift up to 20lbs Benefits Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, 401(K) with company match, PTO, paid holidays, employee perks This is an in-person position primarily based in Thibodaux, LA, with some travel required to additional clinic locations.
