Role Overview The First Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe journey and a positive experience for all guests while continually maintaining a high level of professionalism. This is a union-represented position. Key Responsibilities Perform as Second in Command in the transport of passengers, mail, freight or for other commercial purposes. Comply with Federal Aviation Regulations, company flight procedures and company policies on scheduled flights and routes to ensure safety of flight. Operate company aircraft in accordance with established qualification standards and all flight manual operating procedures and policies. Communicate with all required agencies and personnel while adhering to company communication practices. Conduct business in a professional manner and demeanour at all times. Hold knowledge commensurate with the holder of an airline transport pilot certificate, including all aspects of the applicable FARs and the AIM. Licences & Qualifications Licence: FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument - Airplane. Medical: current First Class FAA Medical Certificate. All aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as set out in 14 CFR 61.159. Current ATP written exam. Valid driver's licence issued by a US state or US territory. Preferred: FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. Experience Minimum 1,500 hours of total documented flight time. Minimum 500 hours of fixed-wing turbine time (airplane and powered lift combined). Preferred: 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time, 500 hours of turbine PIC time and a minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months. Preferred: turbojet or turboprop experience in a complex flying environment. Requirements Minimum 23 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent; a four-year degree from an accredited university is preferred. Must be authorised to work in the U.S. Current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States and at least six months of validity remaining at the time of employment; holders of non-US passports also need any appropriate travel documentation. Able to travel immediately and repeatedly to any location, domestic or international, served by Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Comfortable with a domicile in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; or San Francisco, CA. Excellent judgement, leadership skills, demonstrated commandability and maturity. Professional demeanour and appearance, sound judgement in decision making and the ability to maintain composure under pressure. Salary Alaska seniority list first-year pay rate: $129.71 per contract. Monthly pay guarantee: 70 hours. Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 84 hours (short call). This role pays per the collective bargaining agreement. Airport SIDA badge: employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar must obtain a SIDA badge issued by the airport authority and remain in good standing to keep it. An employee who does not qualify for a SIDA badge, or whose badge is withdrawn, will be terminated. DOT regulations: Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air are regulated by the Department of Transportation (49 CFR part 40). Post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing is carried out before any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position; failure to submit to testing, or a positive result, makes the applicant ineligible for employment.
