Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Medicine

Job Summary The University of Utah Department of Emergency Medicine is looking to hire an energetic, professional, skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team and provide care to patients in multiple emergency department locations. The role requires a minimum of two years experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner and will include providing care at the University of Utah Hospital Emergency Department and South Jordan Health Center Emergency Department, as well as additional community locations in the future. Responsibilities include performing routine physical exams, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays and special imaging studies, performing routine emergency department procedures, and consulting with emergency department and other physicians. Responsibilities Assess the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories. Formulate the medical plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition. Consult with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. Perform selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence. Initiate and/or recommend medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy. Comply with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents. Participate in quality improvement activities. Counsel patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promote health maintenance. Evaluate, plan, implement, and re-evaluate the care of individuals requiring emergency measures. Problem solving and critical thinking in a fast‑paced environment. Required Minimum Qualifications Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Minimum of two years experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner. Demonstrated clinical competence and in‑depth knowledge of specialty area. Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills. Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served. Preferred Qualifications Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS. Utah State prescriptive privileges. Master’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent with current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner). Empanelment for UHPPM 1‑56 credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. Additional Requirements Position is patient‑sensitive and requires compliance with vaccination requirements or approved exemption prior to the first day of work. May require successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen. Employment Details Type: Full Time, 40 hours per week. Shift: Variable/rotating 12‑hour Emergency Department shifts. Salary Range: $109,726‑$147,276.
