Senior Automation Controls Engineer

Kforce's cliient is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer for an onsite role in Phoenix, AZ. This is a direct search assignment with the hiring manager. The company offers a competitive compensation package including base salary and annual bonus. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation and controls, with experience in critical power, renewable energy, or similar industries. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy PLC and HMI solutions for power distribution systems
- Provide hands-on support for system validation, testing, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate on component selection and system implementation with engineering teams
- Interface directly with customers to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered
- Travel to customer sites as needed (up to 20%, ~6-8 weeks annually)
- Serve as a technical lead/mentor for junior engineers
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics, Robotics or similar field or equivalent work experience
- 7-9+ years of experience in automation or related engineering fields
- Strong background in industrial automation and controls for Power Distribution Systems
- 2+ years of field support experience for automated systems
- 2+ years of Codesys programming experience
- Solid understanding of IEC 61131-3 standards
- Experience designing and deploying PLC/HMI systems for power distribution
- Familiarity with electrical panel design
- Experience with platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Modicon, or Honeywell TDC
