AV Safety Engineering Analytics Lead Engineer (GPSSC)

Job Overview Work arrangement : Remote: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View, you are expected to report to that location three times per week, at minimum. The AV (Automated Vehicle) Safety Engineering Analytics team is seeking an AV Safety Engineering Analytics Lead Engineer with capabilities at the intersection of automotive engineering, autonomous technology, data science and cloud processing. This team supports stakeholders across the company by providing data and analytics for AV safety engineering. The role involves integrating data from vehicle systems, databases, third‑party services and agencies to inform system design, quantify driving performance and support investigations. What You’ll Do Provide the strategic vision and manage the design and development of safety assurance analytics infrastructure for automated driving system development and deployment. Oversee the design and integration of contemporary driving safety analytics across AV engineering, AI/ML, large‑scale cloud processing and data science. Set team objectives, goals and metrics for tracking execution and delivery of enterprise KPIs. Oversee the piloting and definition of metrics for monitoring development operations and deployment, establishing sufficiency criteria for launch readiness. Oversee the identification of relevant data for safety monitoring and the development of a reliable supply chain of continuously flowing data. Oversee the development of cloud‑based continuous up‑time analytics pipelines that manage data from raw form through analysis to interactive visualizations and reporting artifacts. Oversee selection of engineering- and physics‑based signal processing, sampling, filtering, smoothing, etc. to prepare raw signals for analysis and storage. Oversee selection of engineering-, physics-, and driving context-based inputs for evaluating AI/ML analytics models. Actively engage with partners, provide technical expertise for leadership decision‑making, and take ownership of technical projects. Define GM’s data sourcing and processing strategy for AV safety assurance, influencing evolving standards and contributing to internal and external thought leadership. Provide large‑scale data processing expertise across Global Product Safety, Systems, and Certification activities. Identify and drive opportunities to improve the efficiency, quality and transparency of safety analytics within GPSSC and across GM. Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Physics, or related field; or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years of experience conducting large‑scale analyses of human and/or automated driving performance data. 5+ years in ADAS, autonomous vehicles, robotics or related field. Experience in the Following Leadership : Demonstrated experience leading teams in large‑scale data analytics, enterprise strategy and roadmap development, agile methods, long‑range planning, recruiting, talent development, goal setting, and performance reviews. Programming & Frameworks : Python, SQL. Cloud & Big Data : Extensive experience with cloud‑based large‑scale processing, notifications, queuing, serverless functions, event‑driven processing, code as infrastructure, containerization, process monitoring, optimization, identity and access management, and service‑to‑service access. Statistics : Descriptive statistics, applied frequentist and Bayesian methods, bias management in large data mining, experimental design, sampling strategies. Dev Ops & Infrastructure as Code : CI/CD, versioning, Docker & Kubernetes, GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Poetry, Terraform. Data Analysis & Visualization : Tableau, PowerBI, Plotly/Dash, Shiny, Pandas, NumPy. Proven track record delivering large‑scale continuous analytics development and deployment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills; effective teamwork. Strong problem‑solving mindset and proactive learning attitude. Preferred Qualifications Experience processing and analyzing large‑scale vehicle motion and context data to characterize driving performance. Record of participation in vehicle safety discourse through conferences or publications. Additional Information Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, which requires purchase/lease of a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless otherwise exempt.
