Environmental Scientist 1
$30 - $36 per hourAtlas
Environmental Scientist 1 Atlas is a trusted leader in environmental and infrastructure consulting services; we provide services that enable communities to flourish and thrive. With a team of 3,500 employees and offices throughout the US, we combine local expertise and a network of relationships to deliver solutions to both public and private clients. Our services help improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work. We always aim for smart, safe, and sustainable results. At Atlas we understand that our future is everyone's responsibility, and we create a better experience at every stage of a project. We're seeking an Environmental Scientist 1 to join our Pacific Northwest team supporting the Coastal 29 – Bundle 5 fish passage restoration project along Highway 109 near Moclips, Washington. Serving as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL), you'll work side by side with construction crews to keep projects in environmental compliance while helping remove culvert barriers that restore fish access to critical habitat across the Olympic Peninsula. This is hands-on, outdoor work with a real and lasting impact on Washington's waterways and the communities they support. It's also a great place to launch and grow an environmental career: as individual habitat projects wrap up, you'll have opportunities to take on new projects and broaden your experience. Core Responsibilities As the CESCL, you will work collaboratively with the onsite Deputy Environmental Compliance Manager but maintain the lead in monitoring stormwater controls, conducting site inspections, maintain TESC sheets, and completing daily inspection reports as you will help to keep projects in compliance with environmental requirements. As individual fish habitat enhancement projects are completed, you may have opportunities to work on a variety of other projects and roles throughout the company. In addition to CESCL duties, you will support ecological fieldwork and environmental planning activities, such as vegetation and tree surveys, wetland delineations, fish exclusion and identification, reviewing construction plans and specifications, and assisting with technical reports and project plans. You'll thrive here if you have A bachelor's degree in environmental science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Geology, Engineering, or a related field. 0–5 years of experience — this role is a great fit for motivated early-career candidates; a background in stormwater management, geology, or engineering is a plus. Genuine enthusiasm for hands-on fieldwork, and comfort working outdoors in all weather, on uneven terrain, and around active construction. A willingness to do in-water work and support fish exclusion efforts (roughly July–September), including occasional 12+ hour days, nights, and weekend shifts. A safety-first mindset, along with punctuality, self-motivation, and sound judgment. The ability to collect precise field data using a variety of equipment, and to build clear reports, figures, and tables in MS Excel, Bluebeam, and GIS. A valid driver's license and the ability to be onsite near Moclips, WA every weekday (plus occasional weekends), July–November 2026 and May–November 2027. You'll need a temporary or permanent residence within commuting distance for these periods. Bonus points (great to have, not required): CESCL (stormwater qualification), HAZWOPER, or Certified Arborist certification. Experience with WSDOT specifications, construction monitoring, or working on active construction sites. Experience in ecological restoration, wetland delineation, or tree and stream evaluations. Familiarity with contaminated soil and groundwater assessment.
