JOB SUMMARY: Transmission Interconnections Planning helps Georgia Power’s strategy to meet the energy needs of customers and support the state’s expected continued extraordinary growth by serving on the team that studies generator interconnection requests. A key component of the strategy is to procure up to 4,000 MW of renewable resources by 2035.The Engineer/Project Manager coordinates with Georgia Power, Southern Company Services, and ITS Participants to address Transmission Service and Generation Interconnection requests in line with FERC, state, and reliability standards. This role manages communications with all parties and ensures timely, accurate responses to each request. The position will also support customer DER initiatives through interconnection planning, technical review, stakeholder coordination, and project implementation activities.Candidates who do not currently live in the Metro Atlanta area may be eligible for relocation assistance, which will be evaluated individually as necessary. This position may be filled as a salary grade SCE03, SCE04, SCE05 or SCE06. Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree preferred - Electrical desired.Technical Experience Requirements:Experience and understanding related to planning, design, operation, and maintenance processes for substations and transmission lines.Demonstrated knowledge of the transmission system, engineering principles, electric operating practices, construction practices, land requirements and regulations, budgeting, scheduling, and general business practices.Analytical skills required to assess progress, identify issues, evaluate alternatives and financial impacts, and determine solutions that address both customer and company needs.Experience with the generator interconnection process and its implementation is preferred.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Comprehensive understanding of utility transmission and distribution systems.Proven ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the capacity to communicate clearly at all organizational levels, including with external parties.Strong aptitude for collaborative work within cross-functional teams.Skilled in organizing, managing, and prioritizing substantial workloads.Familiarity with accounting procedures relevant to expenditures, project billing, and capital budgeting processes is preferred.Experience with TEAMS, Budget Change Authorization (BCA) process, STOMP, and Oracle is desired.Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and Outlook.Knowledge of Microsoft Power Automate and Power BI is desired.Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to adhering to established processes and procedures.Sound judgement in decision-making.Open to innovative ideas and dedicated to continuous learning.Demonstrates agility in adapting to changing circumstances.Behavioral Attributes: Demonstrates behaviors aligned with Our Values: Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Acting with Integrity, and Superior Performance.Maintains a results-oriented approach to responsibilities, demonstrating ownership and personal accountability for assigned tasks.Applies creative problem-solving skills to balance organizational needs with external perspectives.Works effectively within teams characterized by diverse disciplines and backgrounds, serving as both leader and contributor as required.Able to manage substantial workloads, meet demanding deadlines, and prioritize amidst conflicting requirements.Displays strong initiative and exercises sound judgement when making challenging decisions.JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIS:Collaborate with the Transmission Interconnections Planning (IP-T) Principal Engineer and Transmission Project Management Organization (PMO) to define project scopes, timelines, and cost estimates for Transmission Planning related to Transmission Service and Generator Interconnection requests.Prepare BCAs for necessary facility upgrades, with input from various work groups including Transmission Design, System Operations, Resource Planning, and Renewable Resources.Coordinate closely with Accounting to ensure accurate budgeting of generator interconnection upgrade costs.Develop Interconnection Agreements and related contracts per FERC guidelines, ensuring compliance with Georgia Power and Southern Company standards.Administer GPC Interconnection programs, including Qualified Facilities and Affected Systems, by processing contract agreements as required.Participate in activities per ITS Planning Procedure 13 and review TSRs and interconnection requests from ITS Participants.Maintain documentation to track request dispositions and progress on budgeted projects, ensuring service commitments are met.Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and project teams.Respond to storms both within and outside the system as needed.Hold a valid Georgia Driver’s License and drive company or rental vehicles for field visits.Full timePosting Date: 2026-09-16
