Project Lead - Data Center Services

Job Summary The Project Lead - Data Center Services will support both the Physical and Virtual Infrastructure of the organization and its facilities. The Project Lead - Data Center Services will drive data center best practices and related industry standards into working processes and procedures as/where applicable. The Project Lead – DCS will act as the on‑site coordinator and supervisor of several Crew Leads. Job Duties and Responsibilities Directly support and coordinate all scheduled data center MACs based on set DCIT calendar event scheduling. Implements cable work order (CWO) MACs, testing and certification, and can assist with crafting LV project BOM and scope documents. Asset auditing and daily error logs. Provide equipment installation MACs, including device labeling, power connectivity, and LV cable connectivity, and proper cable dressing. Provide smart-hands assistance as required. Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the GPN data center, and report any violations to DCIT immediately as necessary. Concise, detailed documentation and record keeping relative to asset installation layout, cable plant patch matrix, cable labelling standards, etc. Maintain the secure hard drive disk (HDD) bin and log, and ensure compliance with respect to retention practices and notification to DCIT as/when required. Ticketing and service calls. Strong skills and familiarity with basic computer productivity tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), testing tools/applications, and data center infrastructure (DCIM) related tools. Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping and RMA processing support as/when required. Provide general cleaning on raised floor, cabinet/rack exterior surfaces, work benches and other areas as needed on a weekly basis. Troubleshooting layer‑1 suspected cable plant issues. Networking, storage, and general power distribution. Responsible for the development, documentation, and monitoring of performance measures and processes required for audit and operational compliance related to datacenter best practices and industry standards; responsible for ISO 27001 / 9001 and TIA/EIA‑942 certifications. Support standard and emergency operating procedures for the data center. Ensure maintenance schedules within the Data Center align with best industry standards and are followed and reviewed annually. Provide status reporting regarding Data Center service availability, performance, and capacity utilization as required. Daily error log reporting and physical DC inspections for general health, power, cooling, hazards, etc. Coordinates equipment installation and delivery schedules in accordance with set project plans. Directly participate and provide key input for all data center expansion, migration and decommissioning plan. Tools Basic Hand Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves. Trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool. Salary USD $35.00/Hr. – USD $40.00/Hr. Physical and Mental Requirements Must be self‑motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s). Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners. 3‑5 years working in data centers related to the datacom/telecom industry, operations and administration or related technical field. General knowledge of telecom/IP equipment and software configurations. Basic understanding of AC/DC power principles. Strong aptitude for an independent working environment and high productivity rate. Must be able to act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s). Must possess proven problem‑solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations. Must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones. Excellent communication and customer relationship skills. Regular attendance is mandatory. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency. Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field. Any network, storage or server certifications are a plus. Must be able to terminate fiber. Must possess a minimum of six (6) months supervisory and/or managerial experience. Must possess and be able to effectively use the tools listed above. Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to specifications, reporting and quality requirements. Must know the universal communications color codes. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project). Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
