Emergency Medical Tech -Full Time Springfield

Overview Find your calling at Mercy! Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I's may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required. Performs related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: None. Licensure: EMT license for the state where employed, valid driver’s license. Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles. Certifications/Registration: Within 90 days of hire, must hold Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, and NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800. Other: May be required to work differing shifts and schedules. Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements Unimpaired mobility: Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, partner to carry equipment and patients. Must perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions. Must perform required medical skills and techniques. Must have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determining skin and blood color, and read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes. Must hear and understand information from patients, family, or bystanders; hear breathing sounds and determine auscultated blood pressure accurately; differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments; understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens. Must speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, communicate clearly in stressful situations, and verbally communicate with patients, families, and other emergency services personnel. Incumbents will be required to satisfy the physical demands of the role. This will include a pre‑hire and annual fitness for duty test. Equipment Used Mobile and portable communications equipment, Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, fax, printer and other office related equipment. Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. ITLS or equivalent training.
