Job Title : Reading Teacher
Salary Range : Starting at $63,636-$99,959 (commensurate with experience)
Supervisor : Principal
Job Classification : Exempt
Contract Length: 11 months (220 days)
Job Summary
The Reading teacher will support the intervention program for the school in adherence to the Title 1 guidelines and the Virginia Literacy Act.
Essential Job Functions
Assesses children throughout the school and identifies children at risk.
Administers informal and formal assessments.
Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives.
Designs and implements academic interventions using research-based methodology in reading and/or math using district and/or State-approved intervention resources.
Differentiates instruction based on assessment data.
Provides small group instruction.
Documents interventions and progress on each child with whom you support.
Shares student data with applicable teachers and administration.
Provides pre and post-assessment data to teachers and administrators.
Communicates with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.
Participates in team reviews concerning academic progress for students who are struggling or are in need of services.
Works with the school leadership team to guide and monitor the progress of each child.
Assists teachers by providing professional development in the area of early literacy as needed.
Participate in regularly scheduled Interventionists Meetings and determine next steps, in partnership with the principal, for the delivery of specific professional learning, district-provided resources, and processes at the building level.
Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of each student to ensure success.
Manages classroom organization.
Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)
Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
Knowledge of a wide range of scientific subject areas.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Experience : Three (3) years of successful teaching experience
Certification and Licensure : Must have a postgraduate professional license with a degree in elementary education or other content specific area (i.e. reading) equivalent coursework and bilingual skills to include Spanish are preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
