Job Summary
The University of Michigan's Center for Global Health Equity was launched by a catalytic gift from Dr. Tachi and Leslie Yamada and was generously matched by the University. The Center brings together faculty and students from across the U-M community, leveraging expertise from multiple disciplines in pursuit of novel solutions to global health challenges that can positively impact individuals in low-resource settings.
The Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly motivated Program Evaluation Specialist to lead program evaluation and support financial planning across the Center.
Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the Center's Yamada Director, associate directors, colleagues, and partners, the Program Evaluation Specialist will build systems that measure impact, strengthen decision-making, and communicate results clearly. There is strong emphasis on co-developing and collaborating with CGHE leaders and colleagues in reporting indicators that measure the direct impact of the Center's initiatives on the world's most vulnerable populations.
This position is ideal for an analytical professional who can translate complex findings into accessible, actionable insights and who is equally comfortable developing evaluation frameworks, creating dashboards, engaging stakeholders, and supporting sound financial stewardship.
Responsibilities *
Program Evaluation and Analytics (65%)
With Center leadership and colleagues, co-develop evaluation plans, logic models, performance indicators, and data-collection protocols for educational programs, internal grants, and other Center initiatives.
Establish and maintain consistent systems for data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
Assist in designing questionnaires and/or qualitative activities to collect data for program evaluation.
Analyze data using statistical software and qualitative methods to identify trends and measure outcomes.
Build dashboards and visualizations that make complex findings understandable and useful.
Prepare evaluation reports for University and Center leadership, partners, and funders.
Recommend evidence-based improvements to program strategies and operations.
Support needs assessments, program evaluations, research initiatives, and community-engaged dissemination.
Help shape the strategic direction of the Center's data and analytics operations.
Budget and Financial Planning (25%)
Coordinate Center budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and annual budget preparation.
Monitor financial commitments, accounts, and internal project grants in collaboration with Center colleagues.
Develop and improve financial processes and internal controls.
Track funding for faculty and staff effort, professional development, and travel.
Communicate financial and operational information clearly to non-finance audiences through reports and visualizations.
Serve as a financial liaison to other U-M units and international partners, as needed.
Center Collaboration (10%)
Participate actively in Center operational, tactical, and strategic meetings.
Contribute ideas and expertise as a collaborative member of the CGHE team.
Occasionally attend early-morning or evening meetings/events, including those involving international partners.
Take on related projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications *
Master's degree in public health, social sciences, statistics, evaluation, or a related field.
At least three years of professional experience in research, data analysis, program evaluation, or program assessment.
Strong data management, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Outstanding attention to detail.
Experience creating data-visualization or dashboard platforms with tools such as Tableau.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to nontechnical audiences.
Proficiency with survey and productivity tools, including Qualtrics and/or Google Forms, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe PDF tools, and Zoom.
Financial management experience.
Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound independent judgment, and appropriately handle confidential or sensitive information.
A proactive, dependable, flexible, and collaborative approach, with a strong commitment to ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Desired Qualifications *
Knowledge of University and/or Michigan Medicine practices, rules, and regulations.
Professional experience with and/or knowledge of philanthropic organizations focused on health in low- resource settings.
Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data tools.
Commitment to improving health equity, especially in low-resource settings.
