Tax & Finance Accountant

A confidential, established family office is seeking an experienced Tax & Finance Accountant to join its accounting team in New York City. This is a hands-on opportunity for an accounting professional with strong tax compliance, financial reporting, and general accounting experience to support a broad range of family office activities. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing tax returns for trusts, individuals, partnerships, corporations, and foundations, while also being comfortable with investment accounting, financial statements, and day-to-day accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare federal and state tax returns, including trust, individual, corporate, partnership, foundation, and gift tax returns.
\n
• Prepare 1041, 1040, 1120, 1065, 990, and gift tax returns.
\n
• Prepare tax extensions, estimated tax payments, and required 1099 forms.
\n
• Support investment accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
\n
• Analyze general ledger activity, prepare and post journal entries, and maintain accurate accounting records.
\n
• Prepare year-end workpapers and financial statements.
\n
• Assist with annual audits for the family office and related foundations.
\n
• Support payroll-related activities.
\n
• Research and respond to IRS and state/local tax notices.
\n
• Address tax, accounting, and business-related inquiries.
\n
• Work with internal and external professionals on tax and accounting matters.
\n
• Identify opportunities to improve and implement accounting and tax processes and procedures.

Qualifications:

\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
\n
• 5–7+ years of accounting and tax experience, preferably within public accounting, a family office, private client practice, or similar environment.
\n
• Demonstrated experience with tax preparation and financial statements required.
\n
• Experience with 1041, 1040, 1120, 1065, 990, and gift tax returns strongly preferred.
\n
• CPA and/or EA preferred.
\n
• Experience with CCH Access or similar tax preparation and accounting software required.
\n
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
\n
• Some payroll experience preferred.
\n
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax compliance.
\n
