Sterile Processing Tech (SPD), Non-Certified

Job Summary Night Shift, 11:00pm-7:30am Sterile Processing Technician-Non-Certified personnel are responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment, and endoscopes. They prepare and package instruments, perform quality control testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintain records, and prepare surgical cases. Additional duties include stocking, cleaning, answering phones, transporting supplies, training peers on industry best practices, and providing direct customer service to operating rooms and external customers. Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for decontamination, disinfection, and cleaning of reusable surgical instruments via mechanical or handwashing methods while strictly adhering to OSHA safety standards. Demonstrate working knowledge of steam and chemical sterilization techniques, including documentation, storage, transportation, and understanding of sterilizer indicators and biological monitoring systems. Enter, modify, and search relevant information in the instrument tracking system; identify and retrieve instruments and supplies for scheduled cases. Apply infection control guidelines when transferring, storing, and transporting sterile packages. Interact with external customers such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU’s. Follow and promote industry standards supported by AAMI and AORN. Provide strong customer service to operating rooms and external clinics, think critically, and act quickly to meet patient needs. Aid in the education and training of fellow associates. Qualifications Associate’s Degree, High School Diploma, or GED (Required) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (IAHCSMM) Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Working knowledge of AAMI and AORN standards.
