Location: Avera McKennan Hospital. Worker Type: Regular. Work Shift: Rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends (United States of America). Work where you matter. Overview The Registered Nurse delivers nursing care for Adult Specialty units including Nephrology, Transplant, Neurology, Extended Care, and Cardiovascular patient groups. The RN develops nursing diagnoses, establishes nursing care objectives, defines nursing interventions, and provides physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self‑care skills. The RN monitors changing conditions and needs, re‑evaluates care objectives, and delivers care independently while receiving guidance and supervision to improve skills. The RN provides high‑level clinical care, performs assessments, procedures, and treatments, develops and revises patient care plans, and educates patients and families. Responsibilities Deliver high‑level nursing care in assigned units while serving as a professional role model. Assess patient condition based on observation, examination, interviews, physician's diagnosis, laboratory findings, and other pertinent information. Use professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute patient care plans aligned with evidence‑based practice. Implement nursing interventions to achieve expected patient outcomes and prevent complications. Complete assessments within specified time frames and recognize changes in normal and abnormal parameters. Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and evaluate patient progress for safe discharge. Identify and assess patient or family educational needs, and provide education tailored to their level of understanding. Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing care, modify treatment plans, and contact physicians as needed. Follow patient care, safety, and facility guidelines consistently. Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to achieve budgeting, process‑improvement, core‑measure, and patient‑satisfaction initiatives. Direct and delegate support staff in implementing patient care plans, provide guidance, and address deviations from standards of care. Assist in training other nurses and nursing students. Perform complex and routine treatments as prescribed, following policies and protocols for medications, IV fluids, and blood products. Maintain patient‑care equipment operation, troubleshoot breakdowns, manage supplies, conduct preventive maintenance, and place orders. Keep supplies stocked by checking inventory, anticipating needs, expediting orders, verifying receipt, and restocking items. Qualifications Ability to work specified hours (rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends). Strong visual acuity for performing duties and effective communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Board of Nursing. Active license in the state of practice at start of employment. Preferred: 1–3 years of clinical experience in an adult specialty unit.
