Director of Acute Care Services

The Director of Acute Care Services is responsible for the comprehensive management and supervision of nursing care and related activities within the Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units, as well as Respiratory Therapy. This role involves providing both clinical and administrative leadership, working collaboratively with various teams, including clinical leads, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and physicians, to ensure high standards of professional nursing practice. The Director's responsibilities include assessing the quality and delivery of patient care through effective communication and regular observations, ensuring that care is patient-centered, cost-effective, and evidence-based. Additionally, they serve as a liaison between departments to foster seamless care coordination and act as a resource for patient care-related issues. In the planning domain, the Director ensures that nursing practices align with the established mission, philosophy, and departmental policies and standards. The role involves setting specific standards and objectives for the operation of the Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care units, ensuring 24/7 care availability. Duties include collaborating with nursing instructors to plan and supervise clinical experiences for students, assisting in budget development for units, and analyzing patient information to devise appropriate care plans. The Director also coordinates the ICU Multidisciplinary Committee, preparing agendas and necessary data for meeting reviews and fostering an environment conducive to learning and goal achievement. The Director's implementation tasks include acting as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and care teams, promoting continuity of care, and supporting patient education and rehabilitation efforts. The role promotes staff development through continuing education opportunities, inspiring and motivating staff with effective communication skills to develop positive work habits and resolve conflicts. The Director maintains their professional growth through continuing education and adherence to mandatory requirements, demonstrating the knowledge necessary to oversee care that is appropriate for patients of all ages.
