About the Position

Critical Care training 2 years CVICU or CVRU experience A love for surgical heart care High energy, upbeat personality Description: This is a 19-bed mixed unit CVICU/CVRU that operates with a 1:2 or 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio depending on acuity. Hold-over downgraded patients may have a 1:3 ratio. Highly trained CVICU/CVRU charge nurses are available to assist with any issues. An educator will begin your orientation. The unit has 13 day shift RNs and 11 night shift RNs with a nurse's aide on all shifts. The team provides heart surgery to around 850 patients per year. Core nurses are trained in critical care, heart care, recovery, and all devices as they progress through their careers. An ECMO team nurse is available for those in need. Regular procedures include Impellas, IABP, and LVADS care. This unit is high acuity and fosters a friendly environment focused on providing excellent care. The unit uses GE monitors and a Cerner EMR system. Typical procedures performed include: IABP IMPELLA Hemodynamics Frequent ambulation of patients Pulling chest tubes Pulling pacer wires LVADS care (supported by the team) Intubation/Extubation The ideal candidate is a high-energy, friendly nurse who is a lifelong learner. Critical care, cardiac skills, or recovery skills are highly valued. Certification in Critical Care, Cardiac Surgery, or Recovery Room care is preferred. Nurses are expected to arrive ready for work no earlier than 7 minutes before or after the shift start time. Overtime must be approved by Nursing Charge Nurses. If you are unfamiliar with any procedures, please seek guidance from a second nurse or the CNC to ensure safety. Weekend shifts will occur every other week. Additional days off may be included in the contract.
