Introduction

To qualify for this position, candidates must be enrolled in a Nursing program and either currently taking or have completed the Nursing Fundamentals course. Please confirm with your educational institution regarding what constitutes an equivalent course. If you have not yet finished this course but are eager to gain practical experience, consider exploring roles such as Patient Care Technician or Patient Safety Attendant, which can provide a head start.

As a Nurse Extern Student Nurse, you will join a team committed to making a positive impact! Participate in our exceptional Student Nurse Externship program, where you will enjoy flexibility and hands-on experience. We offer additional shadowing opportunities in units that interest you and support your preparation for a Graduate Nurse position. For every 24 hours worked, you will earn 4 hours of paid shadow time in any unit across our facilities. If you are within six months of graduation, consider interviewing for a Graduate Nurse role now and start your journey early as a student nurse.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nurse Extern is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by performing various delegated basic patient care tasks related to common nursing functions and daily living activities. Under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern supports the nursing team in providing patient care in line with their skills and training, while also helping to maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment. The Nurse Extern must be currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited nursing school and can perform advanced procedures once competency is demonstrated.

This position offers a flexible schedule with opportunities to earn shadow time in additional units. After completing orientation and clinical skills assessments, nursing students will gain hands-on experience working alongside a Registered Nurse, enhancing their nursing skills. There is also the chance to interview early for Graduate Nurse positions.

Qualifications Needed

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program, having completed Nursing Fundamentals (only RN programs accepted; LPN programs are no longer eligible).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• High School diploma or GED.
