Physician (Primary Care)

Summary This physician position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Candidates must satisfy the specific eligibility requirements outlined in VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to re‑apply. Qualifications Basic Requirements United States citizenship; non‑citizens may be appointed only when no qualified citizens can be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine completed at a VA‑approved school. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia. Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification, or one of the following alternatives: One year of post‑medical school training (internship or transitional year) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice in the United States. Non‑U.S. residency training followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the United States performing duties related to this position (U.S. fellowships are creditable). PRPs (Physician Resident Providers) are permitted under specific conditions; they must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience At least 2 years of primary‑care provider experience. Physical Requirements Ability to perform all activities of the position without restriction, including considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. Repositioning and transferring patients to wheelchairs or stretchers, using mechanical devices for heavy or difficult patients. Capacity to lift weights in excess of 50 pounds and navigate flights of stairs. Adequate visual and auditory acuity to provide safe nursing care. Capability to work for periods with arms above shoulder level or neck in flexed or extended positions while protecting self from physically abusive patients. Duties Serve as the Physician Team leader of the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in a Primary Care Services setting at MTVAHCS. Provide medical care in an outpatient setting following PACT principles through face‑to‑face (F2F), telephone, and VA Video Connect (VVC) appointments. Assume float provider duties (temporary or permanent) to cover provider vacancies, potentially requiring travel to supported CBOC(s). Ensure patients receive compassionate, efficient, and safe care, meeting all VA documentation timelines. Review alerts daily, keeping no more than 200 alerts at any time; encounter notes within 72 hours and complete encounter errors within 7 days. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, daily and weekly huddles, and statewide primary‑care meetings. Lead by example, comply with VA directives on space management, and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives aimed at meeting national and VISN 19 safety goals. Support PACT huddles and manage patients’ medical comorbidities to optimize quality‑improvement efforts and HEDIS metrics.
