Police Officer

Salary As of January 2026, the compensation range is a 5-step plan ranging from entry level, $88,088 to a top level of $110,164. Prior law enforcement experience is given consideration when determining the level of compensation in the 5-step plan. Position Summary Police Officers serve the community by enforcing state and local laws, protecting life and property, and providing professional, community-focused service. Officers respond to calls for service, conduct thorough investigations, and complete accurate reports in a timely manner. This position requires integrity, strong decision‑making skills, and a commitment to the department’s values of Responsiveness, Diligence, and Resoluteness. Duties & Responsibilities Enforce Colorado Revised Statutes and local ordinances. Strong knowledge of Colorado laws, criminal and traffic statutes, and department policies. Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service. Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations from initiation to case disposition. Interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and involved parties. Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed written reports. Testify in municipal, county, and state courts, as well as DMV hearings, as required. Perform traffic enforcement, investigate traffic crashes, and issue citations when necessary. Safely operate a patrol vehicle and maintain proficiency with firearms, defensive tactics, and other police equipment. Engage with the community and provide high‑quality service consistent with department values. Work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Minimum Requirements Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team. Must be 21 years of age or older. High school diploma or GED required. Current Colorado P.O.S.T. Basic Peace Officer Certification, or eligibility for certification through out‑of‑state reciprocity. Valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (or ability to obtain one prior to appointment). Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to engage with the community. Experience in community service, public relations, social work, or related fields is beneficial.
