Job Description
This role supports pharmacists by accurately and efficiently preparing prescription orders in a timely manner within a closed-door specialty pharmacy environment. The position focuses primarily on fulfillment activities for partner manufacturer free drug programs, with a particular emphasis on providing medications to patients with chronic and debilitating illnesses, including those with Multiple Sclerosis. The pharmacy technician prepares orders for pharmacist review, assists with inventory management, supports shipping operations, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy. The role also supports future software conversion training for permanent staff and contributes to meeting productivity goals tracked through a comprehensive scorecard.
Responsibilities

• Work closely with pharmacists to accurately prepare prescription orders for timely dispensing and shipment.
• Operate under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, following all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Locate and verify the correct medication, strength, and quantity to complete order picking.
• Prepare, count, label, and package pharmaceuticals for pharmacist review and approval.
• Support fulfillment activities for partner manufacturer free drug programs, with a focus on patients managing chronic and debilitating illnesses.
• Assist with limited upfront verification and patient counseling activities as needed.
• Purchase, receive, and coordinate pharmacy inventory to ensure adequate stock levels.
• Maintain and update inventory recap reports to reflect accurate inventory status.
• Retrieve discontinued or expired medications from stock, discard or return them appropriately, and complete all required documentation.
• Maintain prescription logs and ensure records are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable regulations.
• Accurately calibrate pharmacy equipment and document calibration activities in accordance with policy.
• Assist with maintaining pharmacy temperature logs and cleaning logs, and document all maintenance activities.
• Comply with safety, quality assurance, accreditation, legal, state, and federal regulatory requirements at all times.
• Support shipping operations to ensure all scheduled orders are prepared and shipped out as expected.
• Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient pharmacy work area.
• Participate in future software conversion training efforts by supporting permanent staff during transition periods.
• Meet productivity expectations measured through a comprehensive performance scorecard.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations.
• Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and standards.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician or in a medical office setting such as billing, coding, office assistance, or prior authorization/certification.
• Active State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
• Familiarity with drugs commonly used to treat chronic and debilitating illnesses, including medications used in free drug programs.
• Ability to accurately prepare, count, label, and package pharmaceuticals under pharmacist supervision.
• Strong attention to detail when locating correct medications, strengths, and quantities for order fulfillment.
• Capability to follow and document calibration procedures for pharmacy equipment.
• Understanding of safety, quality assurance, accreditation, legal, state, and federal regulatory requirements for pharmacy operations.
• Ability to maintain accurate inventory records, prescription logs, and operational documentation.
• Strong organizational skills to support inventory management, shipping, and general pharmacy upkeep.
• Comfort working in a closed-door pharmacy with limited direct patient interaction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating Scriptmed software.
• Experience in inventory management within a pharmacy or healthcare setting.
• Experience in fulfillment-focused pharmacy operations, particularly in specialty or free drug program environments.
• Experience working with medications for chronic and debilitating conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis, is beneficial.
• Interest in contributing to a growing organization with opportunities for professional growth and development.

Work Environment
The position is based in a clean, closed-door specialty pharmacy environment. The fulfillment area is located in the back of the facility, where pharmacy technicians collaborate closely with other technicians and pharmacists to prepare, package, and ship prescriptions. The work involves handling medications, operating pharmacy equipment that requires regular calibration, and maintaining temperature and cleaning logs to ensure compliance and product integrity. The environment emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to regulatory standards, with minimal in-person contact with patients. The team works with structured processes and a comprehensive scorecard to monitor productivity, and the organization offers opportunities for growth as it continues to expand and implement new software solutions.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Macomb, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
