Assistant Teaching Professor

Job Description

Assistant Teaching Professor to teach courses within Journalism major and minor. The Department of Media, Journalism & Film prepares students to work in an interdisciplinary media environment, offering degrees in Journalism, Media & Communication, and Strategic Communication. This hire will have the chance to be a leader in our Journalism curriculum, with possible responsibility for teaching our core reporting class, JRN 201: News Writing & Reporting I; the introductory news writing class JRN 102: News Writing Fundamentals; and additional undergraduate classes in journalism special topics, according to the candidate’s expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field at time of appointment; previous experience teaching undergraduate journalism courses; previous experience working in a professional newsroom.

Consideration will be given to candidates who will expand the expertise of the Journalism program by bringing a professional skill set that may include investigative reporting; multimedia news production; AI and journalism; photojournalism; or other specialized sub-field.
