About the Agency: The Mississippi Department of Transportation is responsible for providing a safe intermodal transportation network that is planned, designed, constructed, and maintained in an effective, cost-efficient, and environmentally sensitive manner.

About the Position: Second-level Supervisor/Manager responsible for overseeing the work of professional-level accounting staff. Accountable for developing fiscal policies and operating procedures in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Employees at this level assist with preparing and administering agency or departmental programs and budgets in coordination with the executive team or accounting supervisor. This position also addresses financial questions and issues from business partners, federal and local government agencies, state agencies, executive staff, and other employees.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the management and reconciliation of state and federal funds.
• Supervise professional accounting staff and ensure compliance with established financial standards.
• Develop, implement, and maintain fiscal policies and procedures consistent with GASB and GAAP requirements.
• Prepare and review complex financial statements, reports, and analyses for executive review and legislative reporting.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure financial integrity and compliance.
• Experience with the GAAP reporting process for the State of Mississippi.
• Collaborate with agency leadership to optimize division structure and resource allocation in response to increased funding levels.

Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 6-7 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field with 24 credit hours of Accounting.
• Six (6) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience with funds management, reconciliations, and the GAAP reporting process for the State of Mississippi is required.
