Staff Nurse Per Diem UCHC SWSP (multiple vacancies) Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Per Diem Staff Nurse for Southwoods State Prison, Bridgeton, NJ. The role focuses on ambulatory care for inmates, using the nursing process to meet diverse physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs. Responsibilities Provide direct and indirect nursing care to residents, including adolescents, adults, and families. Perform assessments in intake, sick call, emergency, chronic care clinics, and infirmary settings. Collaborate with health care professionals and security staff within the correctional environment. Identify inmate-centered goals, set nursing objectives, and implement interventions. Plan and allocate nursing care, make timely referrals, and initiate appropriate care per institutional policies. As team leader or charge nurse, delegate duties and guide other team members. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Current RN license in New Jersey. CPR certification. Valid driver’s license and acceptable transportation to sites. Preferred: BSN or equivalent; at least one year in a correctional setting. Physical Demands and Work Environment First responder capable of performing CPR for at least 10 minutes; able to lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting patients up to 50 pounds.
