Fuel System Inspections, Calibration & Compliance Testing Company: United Petroleum Equipment Location: Battle Creek, MI Pay:$25 - $28+ per hour,Based on experience Employment Type: Full-time Travel: Daily regional travel required; most days return home / to office Territory: Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Ohio About the Role United Petroleum Equipment is hiring a Petroleum Compliance Technician to support fuel system inspections, testing, calibration, and compliance work for commercial fueling customers. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, comfortable traveling daily, and interested in becoming a trusted compliance resource for petroleum equipment customers. The Compliance Technician will help support 1-year and 3-year inspections, calibration work, line testing, documentation, and follow-up recommendations when issues are found. This role will help build and grow United Petroleum’s compliance department, which is currently being handled across existing service technicians. What You’ll Do Perform petroleum compliance inspections for commercial fueling customers. Support required 1-year and 3-year inspections. Complete calibration work on fueling systems and related equipment. Perform line testing and related equipment testing. Inspect fuel system components and document results accurately. Identify compliance issues, equipment concerns, leaks, or repair needs. Communicate findings clearly to internal teams and customers. Help generate follow-up repair or service work when compliance issues are found. Maintain accurate service records, test results, and compliance documentation. Travel throughout Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Ohio for customer visits. Return to the Battle Creek office / home base most evenings when possible. The client confirmed this role will travel regularly for inspections across Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Ohio, with calibration and line testing as key responsibilities. Required Qualifications Mechanical, technical, service, inspection, compliance, petroleum, fueling, or equipment background. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow testing / inspection procedures. Comfortable using testing equipment, tools, tablets, and documentation systems. Ability to communicate clearly with customers and internal team members. Valid driver’s license. Comfortable driving daily across a regional territory. Ability to work independently after training. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely around fueling equipment and active sites. Weights and Measures Certification from Department of Agriculture Willingness to obtain required Michigan certifications for calibration and petroleum compliance work. Preferred Qualifications Petroleum compliance, fuel system inspection, or fuel equipment service experience. Michigan calibration certification. Line testing equipment certification. Experience working with Estabrook Testing System Experience with fuel dispensers, tanks, product lines, sumps, or leak detection systems. Experience performing state-required petroleum inspections. Experience with EPA / state compliance documentation. Experience using manufacturer-specific line testing or calibration equipment. Strong troubleshooting ability and comfort identifying repair needs in the field. Important note: Final JD should be updated once Cheri confirms the exact manufacturer names and required certifications for the line testing equipment. She stated those details would help with resume searching and candidate matching. What Makes Someone a Strong Fit A strong candidate may come from petroleum service, fuel system testing, compliance inspection, calibration, mechanical service, equipment maintenance, or a technical field service background. You may be a strong fit if you have experience with: Fuel system inspections Dispenser calibration Line testing Leak detection Petroleum compliance documentation Fuel tanks, product lines, and sumps Commercial fueling equipment Field service work Mechanical troubleshooting State inspection processes Customer-facing technical service Candidates Who May Not Be a Fit This role may not be the right fit for someone who: Does not want to drive or travel daily. Is not detail-oriented with documentation. Is uncomfortable working independently in the field. Has no mechanical or technical aptitude. Is looking for a shop-only or office-only role. Does not want to pursue required compliance / calibration certifications.
