Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Manager, Firm Recognition to join our Firm. This position is based in our New York office (hybrid). The Senior Manager, Firm Recognition coordinates the directory submission process for all major legal directories (Chambers USA, Chambers Latin America, Chambers Global, Legal 500 and IFLR), supervises daily activities of department personnel, and ensures operating needs are met. Responsibilities Coordinate the directory submission process for all legal directories including Chambers USA, Chambers Latin America, Chambers Global, Legal 500 and IFLR. Supervise the daily activity of department personnel to ensure operating needs are met. Provide problem solving assistance and participate in large department projects. Coordinate with Asia and Europe offices on Chambers Global submissions. Coordinate with U.S. offices on nationwide submissions. Ensure firm submissions are in uniform format and of the highest quality. Interface regularly with directory editors and researchers to maintain and update best practices for firm submissions. Meet with directory editors to maintain strong relationships and handle lobbying efforts as appropriate. Provide partners and the global marketing group with guidance on directory strategies and processes, including suggested format, style, and content. Assist partners during directory interviews. Conduct research to determine the industry and legal directories that peer firms participate in. Compile comparative analysis of firm rankings versus those of peer firms and individuals. Provide regular updates to directories concerning new matters, personnel changes, and other noteworthy developments. Think strategically about how to best position the firm, our practices, and our individual partners in various submissions. Oversee practice and biography updates for various directories. Field inquiries from directories about events, awards, advertising, and sponsorship. Maintain a database of how we cooperate with each directory (send submissions, interviews, etc.) and publicize results (appears in internal publications and bios as appropriate). Handle any/all requests from partners to conduct practice‑specific directory comparisons. Ensure current knowledge of firm policies and practices, industry trends, and continued professional development for business services professionals. Participate in the interviewing, selection, and training process. Coordinate and oversee department projects, day‑to‑day operations, and long‑range plans. Monitor time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies. Utilize the firm’s performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance. Oversee employees’ work performance and provide guidance in the resolution of problems. Initiate disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department. Recommend guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service, and improved employee relations, in alignment with the firm’s core values. Develop and communicate departmental guidelines and procedures. Ensure accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services. Engage in strategic long‑range planning by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for assigned departments. Demonstrate effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others. Manage firm resources responsibly. Comply with and understand firm operation, policies and procedures. Qualifications Knowledge of marketing and communications field and procedures. Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others. Ability to defuse a tense situation. Deals courteously/effectively with others. Personally handles more complex issues/duties requiring independent exercise of discretion and judgment. Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques. Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software and operating systems. Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates close attention to detail. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills. Ability to administer firm policies and procedures. Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities. Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality. Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate effectively. Ability to work well in a demanding and fast‑paced environment. Ability to work well independently and effectively within a team. Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment. Flexibility to travel. Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree. Minimum eight years of general marketing/communications law firm experience, including three years of directories experience and one year of supervisory experience.
