Phlebotomist/Lab AssistantThe Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant responsibilities include phlebotomy, capillary puncture, specimen processing, and limited laboratory testing (CLIA waived). This employee is responsible for the management of laboratory functions which include the general procurement and dispatch of specimens, quality control procedures, and other clerical duties as assigned. The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant identifies, prepares, and instructs patients prior to, during, and after collecting specimens. Also performs phlebotomy collections using patient age-specific assessments. The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant complies with health and safety policies.Essential duties include:Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen collection – such as: capillary collection; arterial puncture; and aseptic blood culture collectionPerform POCT testing in the clinic and be available by phone to complete draws in Specialty areas as neededPrioritize patient care responsibilities and give rationale for clinical decisionsCommunicate patient information to physician, nurse, or other health care professionalsDemonstrate ability to adapt to emergency situationsTransport all specimens to lab departmentStock rooms and check outdatesServes as backup to the courier making trips to outreach clinics and other hospitals as neededOther duties as assigned – may perform some tasks to assist other hospital departmentsQualifications: On the job training with MA or CNA certification preferred. MT/MLT students are encouraged to apply. Must have a valid Driver's License.
