Job Title: Machine Operator Job Description

The Machine Operator operates blow-mold and injection molding equipment, grinders, trimmer machines, and conveyor systems in a high-volume plastics manufacturing environment. This role focuses on producing quality bottles, troubleshooting process issues, and performing minor maintenance to keep production lines running smoothly while consistently following Good Manufacturing Practices.

• Operate blow-mold, PET, and injection molding machines, including wheels, reciprocating, and shuttle machines, to ensure consistent production of high-quality bottles.
• Keep the work area clean, clutter-free, and well organized to support safe and efficient operations.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks and assist with mold, neck, blow pin, and other mechanical changes as directed.
• Adhere strictly to quality control standards and established blow-mold process procedures.
• Support troubleshooting efforts and help resolve process problems to minimize downtime and maintain product quality.
• Conduct bottle inspections on designated lines, including drop tests and other checks as required.
• Inspect bottle quality during production, packaging, and labeling to confirm compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
• Perform audits, weights, and quality checks on bottles and packaging, recognizing that specific machines and procedures may vary by site.
• Make machine and process adjustments to ensure products meet all required specifications.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on blow-mold machines and related support equipment.
• Immediately escalate any bottle abnormalities, defects, or quality issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Monitor packaging material supply levels and replenish materials as needed to maintain continuous production.
• Pick up dropped bottles and place them into bins or grinders as required to reduce waste and maintain a tidy work area.
• Ensure correct labeling, bottle description, and packaging of products in accordance with specific customer requirements.
• Move finished goods to the designated storage or staging areas safely and efficiently.
• Prepare and document daily production reports, including rejects, regrinds, line efficiencies, and other relevant production data.
• Complete maintenance request forms and document equipment repairs to support ongoing reliability and maintenance planning.
• Follow instructions provided by the Lead Operator or Supervisor on specific job tasks and seek assistance when encountering unusual problems.
• Apply sound judgment in daily work activities and participate in continuous improvement efforts related to quality, safety, and efficiency.

• At least 2 years of machine operating experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with production equipment and processes.
• Experience with preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing machinery.
• Ability to operate blow-mold and injection molding machines and related support equipment.
• Basic math skills to perform measurements, weights, counts, and production reporting accurately.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
• Ability to work on feet for 12-hour shifts in a fast-paced production environment.
• Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled facility where temperatures vary with weather.
• Attention to detail and strong focus on quality control and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from lead operators and supervisors.

• Experience in the molding industry, including blow molding or injection molding, is a plus.
• Background in plastic molding operations such as PET, plastic molding, or blow mold machine operation is beneficial.
• Familiarity with grinders, trimmer machines, and conveyor systems used in plastics manufacturing.
• Exposure to performing quality audits, drop tests, and other product inspection methods.
• Experience documenting production data, maintenance requests, and equipment repairs.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean and efficient work area.
• Willingness to work day or night shifts and occasional overtime as production needs require.

This role is based in an injection molding manufacturing facility for plastics. The environment is non-climate controlled, so temperatures vary depending on the weather and can be affected by the heat generated from the machines. The facility can be noisy due to the operation of blow-mold and injection molding equipment, grinders, trimmer machines, and conveyor systems. Team members typically work 12-hour shifts, with standard schedules of 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. for day shift and 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. for night shift, Monday through Thursday. Workweeks are generally 48 hours, and overtime may be required on Fridays when production demands increase. The role involves standing and moving throughout the production floor for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working safely around active machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS.

The pay range for this position is $26.27 - $27.27/hr.
