Job Description

Position Summary

Under supervision of Executive Director and Clinical/Program Director, provides comprehensive psychiatric services to patients of all ages in the outpatient setting and all Astra programs.

Qualifications

A behavioral health professional that is licensed to practice independently or behavioral health professional who must work under supervision according to individual Board requirements. Possession of an unencumbered license as a behavioral health professional in the state of Kentucky according to the professional’s board.

Clinicians who can work independently include:

• Licensed psychologists (LPs)

• Licensed psychological practitioners (LPPs)

• Licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs)

• Licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCCs)

• Licensed professional art therapists (LPATs)

• Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs)

• Licensed behavior analysts (LBAs)

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

1. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.

2. Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.

3. Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.

4. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.

5. Counsel clients and patients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life and making changes.

6. Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests.

7. Act as client advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.

8. Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge and collaboration with other ABH clinicians, and update them according to ABH policy.

9. Evaluate client’s physical or mental condition based on review of client information.

10. Meet with families, medication providers, teachers, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process, in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR privacy laws.

11. Refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.

12. Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients or patients.

13. Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.

14. Plan, organize and lead structured programs of counseling, work, study, recreation and social activities for clients.

15. Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in clients’ status.

16. Learn about new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies and maintaining required CEUs according to professional board.

17. Discuss with individual patients their plans for life after leaving therapy.

18. Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy.

19. Monitor clients’ used of medications.

20. Plan and conduct programs to prevent substance abuse or improve community health and counseling services. Run workshops and courses about mental health issues.

21. Complete documentation the same day service is delivered.
