SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year. Interns would be required to work a minimum of 10 hours. The Judiciary offers a strong opportunity for growth.

Example Of Duties

The Hudson Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry, database searches, filing, and making photocopies. The interns will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. Flexible schedules are available. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. Internships may be available for the following divisions: Civil and Criminal. Please specify in your cover letter which division you are interested in, as well as any alternatives. Hours and days are flexible but must be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

For Probation and Pre-Trial Services Interns: Thirty credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field. For all other interns: Thirty credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree. Unofficial College or University transcript to show you are currently enrolled and pursuing a degree must be included in your application in order to be considered. Note on Qualifications: All applicants should be currently pursuing a degree. Anyone who is currently a paid intern under this program and have graduated during their internship will be allowed to continue their internship for up to a year from their date of graduation or may work up to 944 hours in a fiscal year, whichever comes first.

Supplemental Information

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information. Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need. The New Jersey Judiciary consists of: the Supreme Court, the Superior Court including the Appellate Division and the Trial Court of the 15 vicinages in New Jersey, the Tax Court and the Municipal Court System. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the Courts of New Jersey.
