ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
The position of Precision Agriculture Faculty reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and the Vice President of Instruction. PURPOSE/SUMMARY OF JOB The Faculty member will be responsible for teaching, advising and outreach to the communities served by MCC. Instructional content assignment will focus on Precision Agriculture and related fields. Faculty member is responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course. The new faculty member will be dynamic, creative and committed to teaching excellence, and have a passion for continuous improvement and assessment of student learning. The Faculty member will also have drone technology knowledge and be willing to get FAA qualified operating a drone within the Precision Agriculture program. The faculty member will also work with part-time instructors throughout the College's service area to provide mentoring activities and help with the implementation of assessment strategies. This position will serve as a liaison with instructors of our secondary partner Agriculture Programs. The faculty member will promote the program and help build enrollment with the help of marketing and recruitment personnel. A variety of instructional delivery modalities (synchronous, online, remote) will be utilized via WebEx/Zoom and a Learning Management System. Teaching assignments may be scheduled at various times including evening and weekend offerings. The faculty member shall perform all duties while promoting opportunities for inclusion, expressing the valuing of differences, and regularly demonstrating the college’s commitment to the Guiding Principles. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 60% of the faculty member’s time is spent teaching or in activities related to teaching such as grading, preparation, development of term schedule, curriculum review/revision, development of course outlines/syllabi, textbook selection/adoption, and student advising, working with student organizations, and maintaining office hours. Faculty member will maintain office hours and provide assistance to students as needed. 10% of the faculty member’s time will be spent recruiting students to the program. This includes outreach to high schools across the service area, as well as direct outreach to the community. Regular engagement with advisory committee members is expected as part of the outreach. 25% of the faculty member’s time is spent attending division meetings and serving on college and CCCS committees and project teams related to accreditation, curriculum, leadership, and others as identified by the faculty member and the supervisor. 3% of the faculty member’s time is spent on other duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Development and/or the Vice President of Instruction. 1% of Based on the functions, this position is identified as a Campus Security Authority. As a Campus Security Authority the incumbent in this position is required to report allegations of Clery Act crimes that they become aware of to the Vice President of Student Services at Morgan Community College. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. 1% of all MCC employees are responsible for ensuring their work and educational environments are free from illegal discrimination, sexual harassment, and related retaliation. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field from a regionally accredited institution. A combination of an Associate Degree and experience in Agriculture may substitute. Possess a strong interest in gaining knowledge of the dynamic Precision Agriculture field. Strong technology skills and experience in using the Microsoft Office suite, as well as ability to deliver instruction via distance technologies. Demonstrated success in instructing students in Agriculture, including experience with the operation and maintenance of various types of agricultural equipment, including tractors, harvest equipment, tillage implements, and planters. Must meet qualifications to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Credential. (must have 4000 hours of verifiable paid occupational experience within the last five years). Drone certification or willingness to gain certification. (Remote Pilot Certificate acquired from the Federal Aviation Administration). Must be willing and able to travel as required by position needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related educational field with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from regionally accredited institutions. Full- or part-time teaching experience in higher education, preferably at a community college. Experience in the Precision Agriculture field, including experience with installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of precision agriculture equipment as well as guidance systems and variable-rate technologies. Demonstrated success in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion. RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION MAKING Provides instruction to students in assigned classes in accordance with schedule, catalog description and official syllabi. Maintains scheduled office hours according to established guidelines. Maintains competence in assigned teaching fields. Engages in professional development activities and keeps informed on new approaches to instruction. Actively participates in the preparation and ongoing revision of class schedules and course syllabi and provides updated copies for department files. Makes recommendations regarding course content, textbook selection, teaching assignments, and student assessment. Actively contributes to curriculum evaluation/revision based on available data. Identifies supplies, equipment and other learning resources needed to support instruction and make recommendations to the Dean of Workforce Development. Maintains accurate class records of students’ attendance as necessary Maintains grades in the learning management system (LMS), keeping students apprised of their status in courses/program. Assumes an active role in the recruitment, advising and enrollment processes of the College. Participates in student evaluation of instruction process. Serves on college committees and teams. Participates in advisory committee meetings for other relevant programs as requested. Attends and actively participates in monthly faculty meetings. Attends and actively participates in mandatory professional development activities. Actively participates in the New Faculty Mentoring Program. Participates in the Strategic Planning Process and provides input into the department work plan and budget development. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching the Precision Agriculture and Drone programs. Primary job activities will include developing and evaluating curricular offerings, recruiting and outreach to the community, and assessing student academic achievement in accordance with College and CCCS standards. The faculty member will be responsible for working in a collaborative manner with faculty and staff throughout the institution and across the service area to deliver coursework. In addition to providing content expertise, the faculty member’s responsibilities will include problem resolution, research of policy and procedurally related matters, and the coordination of functions for the program and its students. The faculty member will have management and supervision responsibility for departmental budgets and student employees.
