Job Summary

The Nurse Educator provides direct patient care support while overseeing the education, training, competency validation, and professional development of nursing staff throughout the organization. The Nurse Educator demonstrates professional maturity and strives to maintain and improve departmental standards, patient safety, and quality of care.

This position is responsible for conducting nursing orientation, coordinating staff education programs, and providing instruction in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Telemetry Technician courses while promoting compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Essential Responsibilities

• Makes assessments and identifies nursing needs according to hospital policy.

• Attends and conducts Nursing Orientation programs.

• Educates nursing staff in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Telemetry Technician courses.

• Conducts daily rounds of nursing staff and provides clinical guidance and support.

• Uses clinical judgment when providing care and/or setting patient care goals.

• Develops and implements plans of care to meet identified patient needs.

• Incorporates physical, social, and psychological needs into patient care planning.

• Reports patient clinical observations and medical outcomes to appropriate personnel, including physicians and department leadership.

• Documents observations timely, accurately, and legibly in the patient’s medical record.

• Assists and works cooperatively with other hospital staff members as needed.

• Coordinates with interdisciplinary teams to streamline and provide quality patient care.

• Provides patient and family education based on assessed needs.

• Follows established documentation protocols and hospital policies.

• Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel.

• Attends required departmental, hospital in-services, and meetings according to policy.

• Participates in hospital Performance Improvement (PI) activities as requested.

• Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory and management of supplies.

• Maintains a clean and safe working environment and reports unsafe conditions promptly.

• Follows infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness guidelines.

• Demonstrates competency in the use of hospital and patient care equipment.

• May occasionally require overtime based on departmental needs.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Medium work: Exerting up to 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, up to one-third of the time, to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree and minimal sitting.

Environmental Conditions

Work is primarily performed indoors with protection from weather conditions but possible exposure to temperature variations and clinical hazards associated with a healthcare environment.

Reasoning Development

Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

Mathematical Development

Ability to compute standard measures, weights, ratios, dosages, and volumes common in nursing practice.

Language Development

Reading: Ability to read and understand instructions, policies, medical records, and technical materials and communicate guidance effectively.

Writing: Ability to prepare reports and documentation using proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and professional formatting.

Speaking: Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, respectfully, and professionally with staff, patients, physicians, and visitors.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

• Current and active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license required.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience and Training

• Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience required.

• Previous education, staff development, or leadership experience preferred.

• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.

• Telemetry competency required.

• Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
