Environmental Scientist

Environmental Planner

The Environmental Planner conducts environmental fieldwork, prepares comprehensive environmental impact assessments, and performs wetlands evaluations to support sustainable development and regulatory compliance. This role provides high-quality environmental consulting services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to address complex environmental and ecological challenges across a variety of projects. The position offers the opportunity to gain broad industry experience and develop both field and consulting skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental fieldwork, including site inspections, data collection, soil sampling, and wetlands evaluations.
• Prepare detailed environmental impact assessments and related documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
• Evaluate wetlands and other environmental resources to identify potential project impacts and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
• Provide high-quality environmental consulting services to clients, offering clear guidance on environmental compliance and best practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address complex environmental and ecological challenges across diverse projects.
• Support sustainable development initiatives by identifying potential environmental risks and developing practical, science-based solutions.
• Apply strong technical writing skills to prepare reports, assessments, and other deliverables that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
• Use analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret environmental data and develop strategies to minimize ecological impacts.
• Assist with planning and project coordination activities, ensuring environmental considerations are integrated throughout project life cycles.
• Interact professionally with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to discuss project requirements, findings, and recommendations.
• Utilize GIS mapping software and related technologies to support environmental analyses and reporting, as needed.
• Work both independently and collaboratively on projects with varying complexity and scope, managing tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Travel occasionally for out-of-state project work to conduct field visits and support project needs.

Essential Skills

• Experience in environmental science and environmental consulting, including familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and standards.
• Proficiency in conducting environmental fieldwork, including soil sampling, site assessments, and wetlands evaluations.
• Hands-on experience with environmental impact assessments and developing solutions to mitigate project impacts on ecological systems.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret environmental data and assess ecological risks and impacts.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills in environmental and ecological contexts, with the ability to propose practical mitigation strategies.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Strong technical writing skills to prepare clear, accurate, and well-structured reports and assessments.
• Experience working in the environmental field, including exposure to planning and consulting activities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to travel occasionally for out-of-state project work.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Planning, or a related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Proficiency in GIS mapping software and related geospatial technologies.
• Experience or coursework in environmental planning or related disciplines.
• Experience using environmental science tools and methodologies in both field and office settings.
• Interest in gaining broad exposure to a variety of environmental projects, including both fieldwork and consulting.
• Motivation to work closely with experienced environmental professionals and learn from direct mentorship.

Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based, with approximately 80% of the time spent in an office environment in Saratoga and about 20% devoted to site visits and fieldwork. The work involves a mix of desk-based analysis, report preparation, and GIS or other technical software use, combined with field activities such as site inspections, soil sampling, and wetlands evaluations. Team members collaborate closely with experienced environmental professionals and have exposure to a wide range of project types, providing a strong learning environment that blends consulting and field experience. Occasional travel, including out-of-state trips, may be required to support project needs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Saratoga Springs, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
