Elementary Paraprofessional

The Elementary Paraprofessional provides student assistance for K-5 students under professional guidance and supervision of K-5 teachers in the district. Elementary paraprofessionals work with children individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to the student. This position is also responsible for assisting the teachers in a variety of settings and with a variety of scheduled activities for the successful operation of the program. This position reports to the Principal or designee.

Key responsibilities include conducting small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher, assisting with preparation of materials for instruction, typing and processing correspondence, operating the computerized circulation system and records, assisting in inventory of materials and equipment, and assuming responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist. Additionally, assists with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.

Key job requirements include holding an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, completing two (2) years of college coursework above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better, or passing the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and holding a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Paraprofessional experience serving school age children is desirable. Bilingual or bicultural experience is required for certain positions. Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License.
