Job Title: Work Planner Pay Rate Type: Non-Exempt Creation Date/Revision Date: 04/24/2026 Job Summary: The Work Planner is responsible for inspecting, organizing, and coordinating the scope of work needed based on vegetation identification and growth patterns. This role establishes the resources and timelines necessary to ensure achievable production goals while communicating progress to key stakeholders. Essential Job Duties: Obtains permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides. Works with customer or property owner to gain access to the job site, advises of potential interruption, and explains the work needing to be completed. Maintains records and reports related to notifying and obtaining permission of customers and property owners regarding upcoming work and communicating information to the General Foreperson and crew personnel. Plans and maps out work for crew members to complete, considering factors such as the ability to get power equipment to locations, time required to complete work, clean-up time, equipment available, weather conditions and special instructions by customers and property owners. Inspects right of ways to assess vegetation conditions and determine required maintenance. Engages and communicates with customers, property owners, and fellow employees to review the specifications of the work plan and address questions to ensure alignment. Inspects work completed by crew/contractors for compliance and utility specifications. Provides support and assistance on special projects as assigned by the utility. During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty and travel outside of regular work location for the duration of the disaster. May assist with contacting and coordinating the crew’s response to such work and responsible for determining proper steps necessary to eliminate hazards and trim/remove trees while onsite during emergency response. Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership. Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures. Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings. Other Duties: Drives and operates vehicles and equipment as assigned. Supervisory Duties: Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements: Possesses excellent leadership skills and be able to handle stressful situations along with being able to multi-task. Knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, as applies to working in close proximity to energized conductors. Excellent customer service and communication skills focused on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patience. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, customers and employees. Knowledge and understanding of the American National Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-current version) and American National Standards for Proper Pruning (ANSI A300). Ability to adhere and educate on company and industry safety requirements. Knowledge of electrical circuits and skilled in reading and understanding of circuit maps. Knowledge of OSHA electric power generation, transmission, and distribution standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269. Ability to determine nominal voltage, proper use of insulated tools near energized parts and distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electric equipment. Must be able to communicate with others and represent Wright Tree Service in a professional manner. Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information. Ability to recognize poisonous plants and take proper safeguard against them. Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, storm work) and will be subject to call‑out work. Demonstrate knowledge and trained to perform tree and bucket rescue. Ability to work both independently and in a group. Education, Certification & Experience Requirements: Has a minimum of 1 year of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews or has successfully completed applicable performance reviews. Has a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license (dependent upon Division and utility/contract requirements) and DOT medical card in accordance with FMCSA regulations. High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Other Preferred Requirements: Drive a vehicle with an attached chipper or other trailing unit to, from or within the work area. Ability to obtain and maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and local, state, and federal law. Keeps informed of new equipment and specifications, standards, practices, and operating procedures. Ability to obtain ISA certification within 90 days of employment. Must be able to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned or make general observations of the community; close visual acuity, such as reading a computer screen, reading printed material, inspecting small defects, and using measurement devices. Ability to enter and exit vehicles and equipment numerous times per day. Routine exposure to noise, vibration, working hazards such as proximity to moving parts, mechanical equipment, moving vehicles, gasoline powered equipment, electrical current, heights, exposure to heat, chemicals, work in close quarters, narrow aisles or passageways, communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, and a variety of pests. Brinda apoyo y asistencia en proyectos especiales asignados por la empresa de servicios públicos. Durante emergencias o desastres naturales, puede ser necesario permanecer de servicio y desplazarse fuera del lugar habitual de trabajo durante la duración del evento. Puede ayudar en la comunicación y coordinación de la respuesta del equipo de trabajo ante dichas situaciones, y es responsable de determinar los pasos adecuados para eliminar peligros y podar o retirar árboles durante las labores de respuesta. Requisitos de formación, certificación y experiencia: Contar con un mínimo de 1 año de experiencia trabajando en equipo de poda o despeje de árboles, o haber completado con éxito las evaluaciones de desempeño correspondientes. Cuenta con una licencia de conducir válida o una licencia comercial (según la división y los requisitos del cliente o contrato) y una tarjeta médica emitida por el Departamento de Transporte (Department of Transportation, DOT) conforme a las regulaciones de la FMCSA. Se prefiere título de educación secundaria o equivalente, aunque no es obligatorio. Debe contar con credenciales vigentes de resucitación cardiopulmonar (CPR), o poder obtenerlas en un plazo de 90 días tras la contratación. Otros requisitos preferidos: Conducir un vehículo con una astilladora u otra unidad remolcada acoplada hacia, desde o dentro del área de trabajo. Capacidad para obtener y mantener la certificación de aplicación de herbicidas o equivalente según lo requerido por Wright Tree Service y la legislación local, estatal y federal. Mantenerse informado sobre nuevos equipos, especificaciones, normas, prácticas y procedimientos operativos.
