This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG welding and fabrication in a well-ventilated indoor shop environment. You will interpret blueprints, prepare and assemble metal components, operate welding equipment safely, and ensure all work meets strict quality and safety standards. The position requires strong technical welding skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient workspace.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding to join metal parts and assemblies according to project specifications.
- Cut, shape, and prepare metal components as needed for fabrication and assembly.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and project requirements.
- Set up welding equipment, including adjusting settings and preparing materials, to ensure accurate and efficient operations.
- Operate welding tools and related equipment safely and efficiently, keeping all tools in good working condition.
- Inspect and test welds to verify they meet design specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Identify and report defects, irregularities, or issues in welds or materials to supervisors for corrective action.
- Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations, including the consistent use of appropriate protective gear.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle materials and equipment in a safe, controlled manner.
- Adhere to production schedules and contribute to meeting project deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in MIG welding and the ability to produce consistent, structurally sound welds.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Strong understanding of welding equipment setup, operation, and basic maintenance.
- Knowledge of welding safety practices and commitment to following safety protocols at all times.
- Solid understanding of various welding techniques, metallurgy, and material properties.
- Hands-on welding experience gained through apprenticeships, trade schools, or previous welding roles.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational training in welding (highly preferred).
- Professional welding certification from a recognized organization such as the American Welding Society (AWS), or the ability to obtain such certification.
- Physical ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that may involve sitting, reaching, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Adequate vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus to perform detailed welding work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a welding-focused vocational or technical program.
- Apprenticeship experience or formal training in welding techniques and fabrication.
- Experience working in manufacturing plants, construction sites, or specialized welding shops.
- Strong attention to detail and quality when inspecting and testing welds.
- Ability to communicate effectively and report issues clearly to supervisors.
- Comfort working in environments with high temperatures, loud noises, and potentially hazardous materials, while adhering to safety standards.

Work Environment
This role is based in an onsite, well-ventilated indoor welding shop in Indianapolis, IN. The standard schedule is an 8-hour shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with opportunities for overtime as needed. The environment may involve exposure to high temperatures, loud noises, and potentially hazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of appropriate protective gear. Work is physically active and may require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Employees use MIG welding machines and related tools and are expected to follow all safety and shop procedures while maintaining a clean, orderly workspace.

This is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.
