Operates ultrasound equipment under supervision, adjusting controls to obtain medical diagnoses via appropriate parameters and protocols. Performs technical procedures (abdominal, OB/GYN, trans‑vaginal, trans‑rectal, scrotal, thyroid, breast, vascular). Maintains knowledge of procedures/protocols; applies knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy to identify pathology and obtain diagnostic information. Operates all assigned imaging equipment proficiently and in a time‑sensitive manner. Identifies patient information using two identifiers; complies with National Patient Safety Goals. Performs routine, specialized, emergency, and urgent imaging procedures; provides accurate, high‑quality exams. Maintains operational communication with supervisor/manager; shares information and follows through with assigned tasks. Works as a member of the healthcare team (physicians, nurses, other professionals) in diagnostic testing. Operates and maintains exam rooms and equipment; evaluates equipment problems and expedites repair; performs quality checks; keeps rooms and supplies stocked, clean, and waste disposed appropriately. Recognizes examination findings requiring immediate clinical response; notifies the radiologist (e.g., critical test results); verifies timely transfer of images to PACS. Assures compliance with JC, MQSA, ACR, DPH/CMS requirements; participates in departmental quality assurance activities; supports QC activities. Performs accurate, high‑quality exams ensuring proper technique, positioning, and visualization. Instructs patients before and during procedures to maximize accuracy. Maintains skills standards: demonstrates current knowledge/skill in providing appropriate care for all patient groups (pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric). Presents self to all patients and customers in a pleasant, professional, courteous manner at all times. Attends and participates in in‑service meetings and training events; documents attendance at meetings/seminars. Reports suggestions for positive changes or recommendations within departmental policies/procedures to the supervisor. Accurately inputs data, demographics, and information into modality‑specific computer applications and systems. Assists in training technologists, residents, and students per departmental procedures; demonstrates willingness to learn and accept new responsibilities. Observes strict safety standards; ensures safety of patients, staff, and visitors; maintains hazard‑free environment. Utilizes time effectively by coordinating patients and procedures to maximize productivity. Assists the radiologist in a wide range of sterile procedures, as dictated by modality. Has passed RDMS Registry in one specialty. Completion of an accredited program and registration in at least one registry. Must be registered in a minimum of one specialty through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Preferred Work Experience Outpatient or hospital Skills and Competencies Ability to work with computer applications. Good verbal and written communication. Self‑motivated and able to work independently. Education High School Diploma (Required) Certifications Basic Life Support – OtherOther, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
