Board of Directors: Working Board Member Organization: Umoja Preventative Position Type: Volunteer Governance & Operational Builder Location: Global / Remote (Open to candidates worldwide, with dedicated seats reserved for leadership in Malawi) Who We Are Umoja Preventative is an international nonprofit dedicated to preventing human trafficking and exploitation. We work upstream—strengthening communities in Malawi through education, health, and economic opportunity to address vulnerability at its roots. A Global Invitation Because exploitation is a global issue, we are intentionally building a borderless, international board. We welcome leaders from all countries, cultures, and backgrounds who bring a global perspective to sustainable community development. While the primary language for our organizational governance and compliance is English, we highly value cross-cultural expertise. The Reality We are entering a major phase of growth and are explicitly pivoting away from passive, "advisory" boards. We do not need individuals for title or prestige; we need builders. What We Expect Financial Fearlessness: A strict "Give or Get" policy. You must be comfortable personally investing in the mission or leveraging your network to secure funding. Radical Autonomy: No "babysitting" or administrative chasing. You manage your own commitments and show up ready to execute. High Responsiveness: A mandatory 48-to-72-hour turnaround time for critical compliance reviews, document signatures, and voting. Who You Are A professional with a background or expertise in nonprofit compliance, fundraising/strategic networks, or in-country operations in Malawi who wants to build rather than just sit.
