About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Med Surg experience required; travelers must have stepdown/PCU experience. License: Must already have a valid state license. Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required. Must-Have: - Must live more than 50 miles from the facility. - Comfortable floating frequently between Med Surg and Step Down units. - Must have prior charge experience (preferred). Description: This position involves working in a Med Surg role that frequently floats to Step Down and MS/Tele units. Candidates must confirm their comfort level with floating. Patient ratios are as follows: Step Down 1:4-5, Med Surg 1:5-6. Staffing and scheduling requirements include weekdays, every other weekend, and holidays as needed. The unit supports adult patients with a focus on oncology. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, pneumonia, diabetes, COPD, and oncology cases. Experience with specialties such as post-operative care and high acuity patients is essential. Candidates will engage with interdisciplinary support teams including physical therapy and respiratory services. Familiarity with and experience in managing various medical equipment and protocols is essential. This role requires managing IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and care for different respiratory conditions. Expect some holidays and weekends in rotation with staff, alongside floating policies that comply with current standards. Candidates will be required to adhere to all floating policies and receive appropriate orientation to new units as necessary. No references are required upon submission, but will be requested during compliance. Return staff must have been gone for one year and left in good standing. Modules are non-billable and must be completed prior to the start of the contract.
