Field Service Technician - Heavy Equipment

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The Field Service Technician’s primary role is to conduct exceptional field service repairs, addressing problems such as emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues on heavy construction equipment like dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators. The position is Monday‑through‑Friday 7 am to 5 pm, requires overtime, a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B. A DOT medical card is required. Related construction equipment experience is preferred. The incumbent is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company’s mission and core values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self‑development. Department: Machine Division (MAC) Employment Type: Full Time Location: Anna, Texas, 75409 Workplace type: Onsite Key Responsibilities Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual tools to determine failure. Document all work orders properly. Diagnose Tier 4 emission systems. Diagnose EGR systems. Work safely at all times and adhere to all safety policies, company procedures, and standards. Perform intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision. Perform intermediate troubleshooting, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis. Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components to CAT specifications. Test, adjust, and verify proper operation of all repairs and adjustments. Prepare and complete job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain clear customer records; access databases required to complete job. Act as a team leader and mentor/coaches. Participate in quoting work orders. Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates. Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation. Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations. Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in clean and working order. Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed. Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards. Work overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs. Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner. Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may mentor lower‑level technicians. Ensure regular and punctual employee attendance. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy construction equipment using electronic and manual tools to determine failure. Document all work orders properly. Diagnose Tier 4 emission systems. Diagnose fuel systems. Diagnose electrical systems. Diagnose hydraulic systems. Diagnose EGR systems. Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices. Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical. Demonstrate proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems. Exceptional skills in customer service. Intermediate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills – preferred CAT ET and CAT SIS. Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; plan for additional resources. Operation and control skills of construction equipment or systems. Equipment selection skills to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses. Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast‑paced, time‑constraining circumstances. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair. Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. Benefits Education and Experience More than four years of heavy equipment experience required; six or more years preferred. Must be able to use CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0. MSHA certification preferred. Air conditioning certification preferred. Must be able to properly and efficiently troubleshoot and diagnose emission systems. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Travel Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay. Additional Requirements Valid driver’s license required. Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record. Must own required tools to perform repairs. Physical Requirements Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb. Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment. Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment. Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work. Work Environment Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
