A child life specialist coordinates programs designed to meet the non-medical, specialized needs of hospitalized children and their families. Responsibilities include: Planning developmentally and therapeutically appropriate activities during hospitalization Promoting effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities Providing emotional support for patients and families Becoming a Child Life Specialist In order to work as a Child Life Specialist, the following qualifications must be met: Completion of a bachelor's degree program in child development or a related field Completion of a 480-hour child life internship (Saint Francis does not currently offer internships) Certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) #J-18808-Ljbffr Saint Francis Health System, Inc.
