DP Electric
Job Description
Job Description
About DP Electric
DP Electric is a premier commercial electrical contractor with more than 30 years of experience delivering complex electrical projects across Arizona, Texas, and the Southwest. As a 100% employee-owned company, we serve a diverse range of markets including data centers, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, higher education, commercial, and industrial.
At the heart of DP Electric's success is its dedication to cultivating industry-leading talent. Through our in-house training program, DP University, we equip employees with advanced skills and expertise to meet the ever-changing demands of modern construction. By combining technical excellence with a client-first approach, we continue to set the standard for electrical contracting in the Southwest.
The OpportunityThe Apprentice Electrician role is where many electrical careers take shape. Working alongside journeyman electricians and foremen on active commercial and industrial jobsites across the state of Texas, you build real, hands-on skills in the trade. You start by assisting experienced electricians and, level by level, take on more responsibility and independence as your abilities grow.
This is a four-level path (Apprentice I through IV), with each level building on the last in technical depth, independence, and responsibility. As you develop, you may also have the opportunity to pursue our accredited apprenticeship through DP University to formalize your training, though it is not a requirement of the role. Throughout, you work under the guidance of skilled electricians and keep safety and quality workmanship at the center of everything you do.
What You'll Do
These core responsibilities apply at every apprentice level. The scope and independence with which you perform them grow as you advance.
- Assist with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, including wiring, transformers, switchgear, motors, and other components.
- Bend and install conduit, including EMT, rigid, and PVC.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams under the guidance of a journeyman or foreman.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues, and help identify effective solutions.
- Follow industry standards and safety regulations, and conduct inspections to keep installations compliant.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all safety protocols at all times.
- Coordinate with other trades and contractors on the jobsite to keep projects on schedule.
- Participate in training and mentorship to build your knowledge and skills in the trade.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, tools used, and materials handled.
- Adhere to company tool policies and take responsibility for investing in and maintaining your trade tools.
How You'll Progress
Apprentice I Entry level
- Assist journeyman electricians under close supervision to learn the fundamentals of the trade.
- Begin learning to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues.
- Develop foundational skills while following safety standards on every task.
Apprentice II Typically 1+ year of experience
- Identify and organize common materials used in the electrical trade.
- Gain experience in underground installations, including cutting, heating, bending, and gluing PVC.
- Participate in rough-in electrical installations.
- Build hand-bending skills, performing basic bends on various EMT sizes.
Apprentice III Typically 2+ years of experience
- Execute underground installations to specification.
- Perform rough-in installations with minimal supervision.
- Advance EMT hand bending and begin using mechanical and table benders for larger conduit.
- Assist with panel interior installation and pulling feeders within one-line systems.
- Contribute to branch power installations: disconnects, homeruns, terminations, branch-circuit pulling, and fuse applications.
Apprentice IV Typically 3+ years of experience
- Plan and execute underground installations with precision.
- Perform all aspects of rough-in with minimal supervision.
- Bend larger EMT and rigid conduit using mechanical and table benders.
- Install panel interiors and pull feeders with little to no supervision.
- Assist with setting and assembling service entrance sections (SES) and transformers.
- Interpret complex blueprints, symbols, layouts, and scales, and manage small scopes of work.
- Apply electrical code (NEC chapters 1 through 4) and take initiative on small tasks.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Texas Apprentice Electrician license (registration with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, TDLR), active and in good standing. The license must be kept current through annual renewal and TDLR-approved continuing education.
- Enrollment in, or willingness to join, a certified electrical apprenticeship program.
- A strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Prior commercial electrical experience is required for advanced levels (Apprentice II and above); Apprentice I is an entry-level position.
Preferred
- Prior experience in construction or a related trade.
- Familiarity with electrical tools, equipment, and materials.
- Conduit-bending experience, including mechanical or hydraulic benders (for advanced levels).
- Strong work ethic, initiative, and eagerness to learn.
We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role performed on active construction sites, both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather and jobsite conditions. The role involves lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, crawling, working at heights, and working in confined spaces, and requires wearing personal protective equipment. Expect a fast-paced environment that calls for focus, care, and a willingness to learn.
