Job Title: Mechanical Project Manager (HVAC)

Location: Denver, CO

Salary: $75K-$115K base salary + bonus 

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, 4+ years of HVAC/mechanical engineering experience (HVAC design preferred), and the ability to manage multiple projects while reviewing construction documents, RFIs, product selections, and client/vendor coordination in a fast-paced environment 

Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Manager specializing in HVAC systems to lead design and construction of mechanical projects from pre-construction through commissioning. The successful candidate will combine technical mechanical engineering expertise with strong project management skills to deliver high-quality, code-compliant HVAC solutions on time and on budget. This role involves client-facing responsibilities, coordination with multi-discipline teams, and oversight of construction documentation and field construction activities.

Work Environment: Primarily remote - candidates must be located along Colorado's Front Range (Colorado Springs, Denver, to Fort Collins) Flexibility to work from home, and travel to job sites and the office as needed. Time in the field could range from 15-40% of work time depending on the Project Managers preferences and working style.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical/HVAC projects through all phases: pre-construction, design development, construction documentation, bidding, construction administration, and commissioning.
• Produce and review mechanical design and construction documents, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical/MEP disciplines, contractors, and owner representatives to resolve design and construction issues.
• Develop project schedules, manage budgets, track project performance, and report status to clients and internal leadership.
• Prepare and review HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, system schematics, and control strategies; oversee energy modeling and performance analyses as required.
• Lead constructability reviews and provide cost estimate input during pre-construction to optimize design and value engineering.
• Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, site observations, and punch lists; ensure timely resolution of field issues and quality control.
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers and designers; coordinate external consultants and specialty contractors as needed.
• Ensure adherence to safety, sustainability, and quality assurance processes; support commissioning and system start-up activities.
• Maintain clear, proactive client communication, foster strong relationships, and pursue opportunities for additional work.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; masters degree preferred
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; EIT or FE certification acceptable and encouraged if PE is not held.
• 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with emphasis on HVAC design and project management; experience in both design and construction phases.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit MEP, BIM workflows, and construction document production.
• Hands-on experience with HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping design, and controls integration.
• Familiarity with energy modeling tools and performance analysis to support efficient, sustainable designs.
• Proven experience in pre-construction services, cost estimating, constructability reviews, and value engineering.
• Excellent project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, contract administration, and risk management.
• Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor staff.
• Working knowledge of relevant building codes, standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, local codes), and commissioning best practices.
