We know that Dashers have a lot of choices when it comes to gig work. This is why DoorDash has created a pay model designed to make earnings fair and transparent for any work done through the DoorDash platform. Base Pay Base pay is DoorDash’s base contribution for each offer. When Dashers choose to earn per offer, Base Pay is based on the estimated time, distance, and desirability of the offer. When earning by time, Base Pay is based on the minimum guaranteed hourly rate for the time spent actively on a delivery. After your first dash, we'll send you a Dasher activation kit that contains items like a food warming bag and a Red Card. Since no two people have the same taste in gear, there’s an online store so you can get the gear and equipment you want. Millions of people order food and other goods through DoorDash. When customers place an order, we offer the deliveries or tasks to Dashers, who earn money by picking up and delivering them. Where is DoorDash available? DoorDash is available in over 7,000 cities in all 50 U.S. states, including Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico; over 80 cities in Canada; and Melbourne, Australia and New Zealand! How long does it take to start working with DoorDash? Our signup process takes just a few minutes, and most Dashers can start earning within days. What materials do I need to be a DoorDash driver? To earn money, all you need is a smartphone and a mode of transportation, such as a car, bike, scooter, or motorcycle. We'll take care of everything else! Are there car requirements for driving with DoorDash? Nope. You can use any car to drive, deliver, and earn. You just need a valid driver's license and insurance. How do I check the status of my Dasher signup? Just tap the 'Already started signing up?' button at the top of this page, and log in using the email address and phone number you used to sign up. If you're not quite finished, we'll prompt you for missing information. Otherwise you'll see the status of your signup. Why should I be a DoorDash driver? You're the boss. As an independent contractor, you have the freedom to drive when it works for your schedule. You are in control of how many hours you want to dash per day or per week. It's a great alternative to seasonal, temporary, and part-time work. Do I need any experience to be a DoorDash driver? Nope! You don't need any prior work experience. But if you do have previous experience in the rideshare, food, or courier service industries, delivering with DoorDash is a great way to earn money. We welcome drivers and bikers from other gig economy or commercial services such as UberEats, Postmates, Lyft, Caviar, Eat24, Google Express, GrubHub, AmazonFresh, Instacart, Amazon, Uber, Waitr, and Bite Squad. Dashers come from all backgrounds and industries, and include catering drivers, truck drivers, and taxi drivers. What is the difference between food delivery and rideshare? With delivery, there are two big differences: You don't have passengers in your car You can use any mode of transportation: your car (two doors is fine), bicycle, or motorcycle It’s also a bit more active than ridesharing, as you get in/out of your car/bike to pick up and deliver the food. What's a delivery like? Once you receive a delivery or task opportunity, you'll see where it is and what you'll make, and can choose to accept or reject it. Once you accept, there are generally three steps, all of which are clearly outlined in the Driver app: Drive to the restaurant Pick up the food Drive to the customer to drop off the food Terms and conditions: The Gas Price Relief Incentive is available to eligible Dashers completing deliveries using a motor vehicle (excluding motor scooters and ebikes) between 03/23/26 and 06/21/26, with qualification periods running Monday 12:01am - Sunday 11:59pm local time. No opt-in is required. Dashers may earn $1.50 for every 50 kilometres driven, up to a maximum of $36 per week for driving 1,200 kilometres. Kilometres driven are calculated based on deliveries that are accepted and completed, as recorded in the Dasher app, and only those deliveries count toward totals. Eligible payments are typically issued by the following Wednesday and appear in the Earnings tab (for example, kilometres completed 5/23/26–5/29/26 are expected to be paid by 6/3). Any "per litre savings" estimates are illustrative only, and actual savings may vary based on vehicle efficiency, fuel prices, and driving patterns. Dashers must have an active account in good standing. DoorDash may withhold or adjust payments for fraud or abuse, and may modify or terminate the promotion at any time.
