Quality Assurance Technician (QA Tech)

• Location: Detroit / Dearborn, MI Area

• Position Type: Full-Time, 1st and 2nd shifts

Job Summary

Tailored Bottling Solutions is searching for a QA Technician at our Detroit facility is responsible for day-to-day quality control audits, inline testing, and regulatory documentation across our high-speed beverage bottling and custom packing lines. This role ensures total compliance with federal FDA standards, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) regulations, and strict client brand specifications.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Inline Auditing & Process Controls: Perform continuous inspections of active filling, capping, and packaging lines. Monitor production run timestamps, tracking codes, label orientation, and sleeve alignment.

• Chemical & Physical Testing: Collect and analyze line samples. Conduct precise testing for pH levels, brix (sugar levels), carbonation volumes, liquid torque thresholds, and fill weights. Log data in real-time.

• Sanitation & Hygiene Verification: Monitor and test Clean-in-Place (CIP) washline concentrations and chemical parts-per-million (ppm) levels. Conduct pre-operational ATP sanitation swabs and environmental allergen monitoring.

• Regulatory Compliance Support: Verify all line Critical Control Points (CCPs). Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Sanitation Operational Procedures (SSOPs) across the production floor. Keep all logs auditable for SQF (Safe Quality Food) and HACCP tracking.

• Hold Protocol & Deviation Management: Identify, tag, and isolate any non-conforming or out-of-specification materials or finished goods. Inform shift supervisors immediately and assist with root-cause investigations.

• Lab Instrument Calibration: Clean, standardize, and calibrate sensitive laboratory testing gear (refractometers, pH meters, densitometers) at the start of every shift.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical certifications or college coursework in chemistry, biology, or food science is highly preferred.

• Experience: 1–3 years of quality control/assurance experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment. Direct experience in food, beverage, dairy, or liquid packaging lines is strongly preferred.

• Certifications: HACCP or SQF practitioner certification is a major plus.

• Skills: Strong attention to mathematical detail, proficiency with electronic data entry systems (Excel, specialized ERP/QA databases), and a confident communication style to handle line-stoppage scenarios when quality parameters are breached.

Physical & Environmental Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, and climb platforms across a busy production floor for up to 12 hours per shift.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion.

• Comfort working around high-speed automated machinery in conditions that fluctuate between wet, humid, warm, or cold environments.

• Strict adherence to zero-tolerance plant safety regulations, including wearing steel-toe boots, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and hair/beard nets.
