Transdev’s Autonomous Specialists are critical to delivering safe autonomous driving systems to our customers, enabling a revolutionary mobility experience. The Autonomous Specialist is responsible for operating and evaluating a self‑driving vehicle in autonomous mode, collecting data, providing feedback, and offering ride‑hail service to the general public. Key Responsibilities Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety inside and outside of the vehicle. Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in your care, and a willingness to adjust to changes in the environment. Act as the deputy for technology, communicating courteously with management, engineers, and the public. Respond quickly to changing and potentially high‑pressure environments. Work mostly individually and in small groups of 2‑10 people. Operate a vehicle 6‑8 hours a day, up to 5 days a week. Follow diagnostic guides to troubleshoot driver‑support modules, including mobile devices, laptops and other work devices. Provide rides in the autonomous vehicle to the general public. Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus. Provide concise, clear and accurate verbal and written feedback on vehicle operations. Manage the vehicle’s key security process. Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests. Interact politely with the public and educate them on self‑driving technology when necessary. Operate autonomous vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including varied environmental conditions. Operate onboard data‑collection systems. Comfortably ride as a passenger when the driver has limited control. Safely operate a non‑autonomous vehicle while monitoring driverless vehicles during recovery operations. Responsible for the safe recovery of the autonomous vehicle, including parking, setting up protection, disengaging the self‑driving car and driving it to a safe location. Apply safety procedures for rescue scenarios. Oversee and ensure the security and import of disks, accounting at shift start and end, and maintaining proper disk inventory. Act as a point of contact for client Security and Facilities staff on remote sites. Assist passengers of the driverless vehicle to disembark, board the rescue vehicle and safely drive them to their destination. Assist software progress by testing new features. Document recurring issues and potential bugs. Follow weekly release emails and bug reports to stay up to date. Work closely with the Operations Supervisor to keep demo documentation accurate and up to date. Represent the client by showcasing self‑driving technology to guests in a friendly, concise manner. Work assigned shifts. Perform any other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads; additional experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. Four‑year college degree in a related field such as industrial or applied sciences preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Ability to parallel‑park with minimal assistance. Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (Gmail, Hangouts, Drive, Sheets, Docs). Proficiency using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred). Typing speed of at least 40 adjusted wpm. Excellent attention to detail and ability to describe thoughts concisely. Respond quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios. Adapt quickly to new and developing technology. Cross‑functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation. Multitask across multiple technologies, including communication devices and vehicle status systems. Work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnight and/or weekends; travel up to one month; occasional overtime and recall for peak demand. Execute shift duties from a compact crossover vehicle; frequent outdoor exposure. Travel up to 20% of the time. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Self‑motivated with good judgment in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments. Physical Requirements Routine standing, walking, and long periods of sitting. Use of extremities: hands/fingers/grip, touch, hearing, climbing stairs/ladders. Reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Lift and/or move up to 45 pounds routinely and repetitively. Use close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception. Work mostly outdoors or in a vehicle. Exposure to inclement weather and/or extreme environments possible. Operate alternative transportation such as bicycle or scooter as needed. Pre‑Employment Requirements Must be 21 years old. No more than 1 point on the driving record (California) or one non‑major moving violation in the preceding three years. Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps. No driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the past 10 years. Never the at‑fault driver in an accident resulting in injury or death. Maintain a driving record that meets state AVT requirements and other applicable regulations and laws. Background check and pre‑employment drug screen; safety‑sensitive positions also require a physical screening. Ongoing background checks per state law. Maintain an acceptable driving record for the duration of employment. Qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license where required. Eligible to work in the U.S. without restrictions for any employer at any time (USCIS).
