Your specific responsibilities include performing minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assisting in the repairs of this equipment; checking and adding fluids, checking/adjusting brakes, maintaining proper air pressure in all tires, etc. You will also clean and wash equipment. You will operate vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but is not limited to; dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance. You will use a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. You will perform independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision. You will also perform tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs. You will perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). You will assist with crew activity reports as needed.

The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of mathematical calculations, standard safety rules and procedures; skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools, operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles; and the ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms, maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures, communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions, develop and maintain effective working relationships with others, lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in various weather conditions on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.

Minimum qualifications include a valid Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with air brakes is required at the time of hire and one year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment. This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years. Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed. In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query. A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.
