Airport Information: The nearest commercial airport is Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG), approximately 150 miles southwest, offering regional connections. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), approximately 270 miles south, provides extensive domestic and international service and is the most commonly used major airport for travel to the Hopi area.

About the Facility - Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC)
Hopi Health Care Center is a Joint Commission-accredited Critical Access Hospital and the only healthcare facility on the Hopi Reservation, serving a catchment population of approximately 18,000. HHCC provides 24/7 Emergency Department services, a four-bed short-stay inpatient unit for adult admissions, and business-day ambulatory medical, dental, physical therapy, optometry, and public health services. The facility also offers limited 24/7 onsite pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services. Working at HHCC provides a unique opportunity to serve a historically underserved community while gaining valuable experience in rural emergency medicine and Indian Health Service operations.

Emergency Department Physician - RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to)

• Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, treat, manage, admit, discharge, consult, transfer, and document care for patients presenting to the HHCC Emergency Department.
• Provide after-hours inpatient coverage, Fast Track support, and urgent follow-up as authorized.
• Coordinate patient transfers to higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
• Manage high-acuity patients in a rural Critical Access Hospital environment with limited in-house specialty support.
• Participate in emergency response, disaster response, and mass casualty protocols as required.
• Document all clinical encounters in the electronic health record in accordance with facility policies.

Emergency Department Physician - REQUIREMENTS

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited institution.
• Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
• Completion of an approved residency in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible by ABMS or AOA - Emergency Medicine preferred.
• For non-EM residency: minimum 5 years post-residency ED experience preferred.
• Current BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications required.
• Recent procedure logs required for Emergency Department privileges.
• Rural/remote, Critical Access Hospital, or IHS/Tribal experience preferred.

Schedule
12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), typically in blocks of 5-7 consecutive shifts. 24/7 coverage including weekends and holidays.
