Opening Statement: This position is open to two P-levels: Associate Control Systems Specialist (Grade 5 / P1 – Entry) and Control Systems Specialist (Grade 6 / P2 – Intermediate) . The level at which an offer is made will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience. Job Overview As a Control Systems Specialist, you will deliver expert technical support for SCADA systems and Operational Technology computer networks across design, operations, and maintenance functions. This position requires strong analytical skills to interpret business processes and implement effective solutions. Key Responsibilities Maintain and optimize SCADA software applications. Manage user access and permissions. Diagnose and resolve complex communication issues. Support critical infrastructure including computer hardware, control systems, networking equipment, and fiber optic connections. Responsibilities – Associate Control Systems Specialist (Grade 5 / P1 – Entry) Production Control Systems Assist in the configuration of devices used in the control systems and help technicians in troubleshooting problems. Assist engineering and project teams with programming and commissioning of control systems. Support the modification of programs for PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMIs. Assist in maintaining existing DCS and HMI platforms, auxiliary control systems to minimize downtime and performance losses. Maintain user access to control systems. Troubleshooting and Analysis With guidance, provide first‑level support for troubleshooting system failures (controls/graphics, field devices, electrical). With guidance, support troubleshooting failures on IT platforms: software applications, operating systems, and computer networks. Testing and Controls Follow procedures to complete performance tests of control equipment and systems. Document testing results and maintain testing procedures. Perform system performance audits and document results. Consultation and Leadership Participate in project design reviews to ensure P&IDs, instrumentation specs, and other engineering documents meet standards. Communicate with site management regarding product design and schedule. Provide information to other team members. Compliance and Reporting Ensure all processes align to appropriate standards, regulations, and laws. Maintain compliance‑related documentation. Run reports and analyze data as needed. Ensure safe work practices. Follow quality documentation forms and execute them prior, during and after each testing process. Project Coordination Support site operational maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs. Responsibilities – Control Systems Specialist (Grade 6 / P2 – Intermediate) Production Control Systems Lead site commissioning activities and train site personnel on control system applications. Responsible for the modification of programs for PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMIs. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing DCS and HMI platforms and auxiliary systems to minimize downtime and performance losses. Provide advanced configuration and troubleshooting. Perform and document tasks in accordance with regulatory or compliance standards. Manage user access to control systems. Troubleshooting and Analysis Responsible for troubleshooting and resolution of control system failures (graphics, field devices, electrical). Lead in troubleshooting failures on IT platforms: software applications, operating systems, and computer networks. Testing and Controls Develop performance tests of control equipment and systems and integrate the information for equipment trending and decision‑making. Develop and maintain testing procedures and documentation. Lead in system performance audits to identify and develop functional improvements and enhance controls. Consultation and Leadership Provide input in project design reviews to ensure P&IDs, instrumentation specs, and other engineering documents meet standards. Assist project teams with the creation of design and construction documents related to control systems. Communicate with site management regarding project design and schedule. Provide coaching, guidance, and feedback to other team members. Compliance and Reporting Ensure all processes align to appropriate standards, regulations, and laws. Maintain compliance‑related documentation. Run reports and analyze data as needed. Ensure safe work practices. Develop and follow quality documentation forms and execute them prior, during and post to every testing process. Project Coordination Proactively identify new projects for the company and support design, construction, operation, maintenance, and testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs. Education / Experience / Certifications Education Requires a degree in engineering, project management, or a related technical field or equivalent experience. Experience P1: Typically two or fewer years of technical experience in control systems. P2: Typically 2 or more years of technical experience in control systems. Certifications, Licenses and Training CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, Cisco CCNA preferred but not required. Minimum Competencies Functional Competencies Proficiency by level: P1 – Basic proficiency.
