Position Summary The orthopedic technician performs both administrative and patient‑care support for orthopedic patients, under the direction and supervision of the Operations Manager and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols and standards of practice. Responsibilities Assist with applying and removing casts, splints, and braces. Instruct patients on the use of crutches and traction systems. Gather patient information for registration, schedule appointments, and verify demographic data. Facilitate patient access to services and assist with administrative tasks. Provide excellent customer service and maintain courteous, professional communication with patients, staff, and external contacts. Use basic medical terminology and abbreviations accurately. Make independent decisions based on department policies and established procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive patient information. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an Orthopedic Technology program, Medical Assistant program, military technical medic training, or at least one full year of allied‑health coursework (including A&P) or one year on‑the‑job training in orthopedic‑related work. Minimum of two years of prior work experience, with preference for experience in cast and traction set‑up. Must pass clinical competency testing. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Basic computer proficiency (data entry, electronic health records). Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Hand dexterity, hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform cast and device procedures under provider direction. Compensation and Benefits Base pay range: $26.33 – $34.75 per hour.
